"Hey, did you do that thing I asked you to do?"
*status suddenly changes to "away 5 minutes"*

It's uncanny how often this happens.

What's truly uncanny is how businesses won't let Skype go.

It's handy if whoever you need to talk to also has it.

No it's not. It's a cancer. Slack does everything Skype does but better.

About once a week it'll just not connect and say the server is unavailable.

Microsoft bought it. so people are obligated to automatically hate it.

Personally, Microsoft is the best thing for the industry. From a business perspective, everything is integrated perfectly. From an open source perspective, it gives people a "big evil corporation" to rally against so they don't mind producing a lot of software for free.

That was never a factor for me. I've used Skype for years. It simply fell behind superior clients as it updated more often. Why would I subject myself to less?

Never had to deal with Lync so maybe Ive been pretty lucky that our pbx is in the cloud but not had any issues with Skype through our current provider. Have you played much with teams yet?

Skype is just annoying to configure because it lacks settings that you'd think would be common sense.

Unfamiliar with teams, though I got out of the generalized sys admin business two years ago. I'm strictly about that vmware and storage array management now.

I don't have a problem with Microsoft. Their products, for the most part, work well.

But they completely murdered Skype. It went from a ubiquitous messenger program that everyone generally liked to a shitty, clunky, outdated application that's only begrudgingly used when companies force it upon their workers. Every update made it even worse
