because water was too expensive.

Forget Tap Water for a moment here.

Using Walmart.com as a resource, I found soda is always at least twice as expensive as water.

The big packs, 24 count packs, 16.9 ozs, water was 1 cent per ounce (Dasani), and Soda (Pepsi, Coke etc) was at least 2 cents per ounce or more.

My first thought was maybe she lived in a city that is scarce on water or something, but she lived in Pennsylvania.

I live in Southern California and even with our notorious "drought" water is cheaper than soda.
In fact, many fast food restaurants will literally water down their sodas to save cost.

My other thought was maybe the cheapest soda, Shasta, is actually less than 1 cent per ounce and maybe the water at the 99 cent store gives you less ounces than the give you on shasta.

The 99 cents store site doesn't let me look up the price of stock, but when I used to go to the 99 cent store as a kid, I'm pretty sure the water packs on the store gave you more ounces than the packs of shasta.

I don't think I have ever heard someone claim they only drank soda because they couldn't afford to drink tap water or bottle water. That is so strange...

I mean I've heard people claim they're fat because junk food is cheap and healthy stuff is expensive.

But soda being cheaper than water? Horseshit.

You can eat relatively healthy for cheaper than junk food easily. Excuses is all it is.

Well Ramen is literally 12 cents so I know you can eat cheaply if you eat unhealthy food.
Although the problem with Ramen is it's not very nutritional.

I have a pack of Maruchan Ramen in front of me and just going off the back, if you ate just Ramen for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, I don't think you would get fat. It has a 35% value of sodium per serving, so even with 3 servings you are only getting 105% of the healthy value of salt. Everything else is nowhere near 30% so the only thing you would ever be over-getting is sodium and only slightly.

The thought of eating ramen 3 times a day though makes me sick.
I mean it's unhealthy because you won't get other important nutrients, like I said.

When I was a freshman, I used to eat poptarts for breakfast and ramen for dinner, but because I only ate 1 pack of ramen and 2 poptarts, I probably lost weight.

But regardless, I'm not criticizing the argument that being healthy is too expensive (although I'm highly skeptical)

She's same famous youtuber. I watched an interview where she said she wants to change the world and she was saying her parents were forced to buy her crap out of necessity. She said they had to buy her soda because they couldn't afford water among other things and the interviewer didn't call her out on it.

A pack of Ramen is one meal. If all you have for dinner is a bowl of Ramen you're not eating unhealthy.

I rarely eat it nowadays. >_>

And I never ate it because my parents were too poor to afford meals more than 12 cents...
I ate it because I thought it tasted good. Everyone in college just thought it tasted good and was easy to make. I don't think I have ever met someone who could only afford 12 cents meals, even homeless people spend more than 12 cents on meals lmao.

A ramen brick is two servings. You're getting 210% of your daily sodium from three bricks, which is a bad idea over the long term.

I don't think it's that healthy food is so much more expensive than unhealthy food is much easier.

How much are the smaller packs

Poor people can't buy bulk items as much because the initial investment is too high
so I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it

Otherwise its' more excuses for being fat lol

The claim is stupid but If somehow that was the case, it makes sense. I got a bit too fat for my liking recently and decided to cut out soda. Now Ive been drinking exclusively water and that la croix stuff for 2 months and Im down 10 pounds. Lay off the soda people. It aint good for ya.

imagine not being able to spend 2 dollars and 50 cents all at once for 24 water bottles because the investment is too high,
so you buy a soda for a dollar every time you are thirsty.
