This is literally THE END. Last nail. Done. No more. It's over. Game Over.
Just a daily reminder: up to -57% confirmed/proven performance loss in enterprise, especially MySQL.
Xeon is a LITERAL toxic product and investment now. And Intel is truly afraid of Zen now. Afraid so much that they result to such dirty "tactics". It won't work anymore, though. Everyone opened their eyes.

It's something called reading but I guess some people are too lazy. Intel is basically controlling the cyber space of how their chips are used.
Intel Gags Customers from Publishing Performance Impact of Microcode Updates

Much of the secret sauce that made Intel processors faster than AMD is going sour, as the cybersecurity community is finding gaping security vulnerabilities by exploiting features such as speculative execution. Intel's microcode updates that mitigate these vulnerabilities impact performance. Intel isn't too happy about public performance numbers put out by its customers, which it fears could blunt the competitive edge of its products. The company has hence updated the license terms governing the microcode update distribution to explicitly forbid its users from publishing comparative "before/after" performance numbers of patched processors.

The updated license for the microcode update has this controversial sentence (pay attention to "v"):

"You will not, and will not allow any third party to (i) use, copy, distribute, sell or offer to sell the Software or associated documentation; (ii) modify, adapt, enhance, disassemble, decompile, reverse engineer, change or create derivative works from the Software except and only to the extent as specifically required by mandatory applicable laws or any applicable third party license terms accompanying the Software; (iii) use or make the Software available for the use or benefit of third parties; or (iv) use the Software on Your products other than those that include the Intel hardware product(s), platform(s), or software identified in the Software; or (v) publish or provide any Software benchmark or comparison test results."

Nobody cares about anything. Good philosophy. Surely that will lead to the destruction of humanity and society.

the only people this really effect are bigass corps, like microsoft.

but microsoft has enough of these things that loosing a megahertz or two in performance isn't going to impact anything.

it's more cost effective to take the slight performance hit than spend millions on new hardware, time spent developing new software to use that hardware, and then setting everything up. you're talking months, if not years, of work here.

I did read it, I just have no idea where you got most of those sentences.

3rd parties cannot publish benchmark tests, yeah it sucks. It's not the literal end of the world or Intel as we know it, they do make more than gaming-grade CPUs.

This. The TC meant Seppuku and no one has mentioned they wrote Sudoku instead yet.

Eh... I'm with Pus. I mean, that's obviously a joke, but TC tried so hard to cram so many jokes haphazardly without any real structure that the whole thing kinda' comes across as word vomit.

Intel doesn't want reality. They probably want to start fabricating false performance numbers. They already lock the CPU ratios so you have to pay like 100$ more just to be able to Overclock. AMD is way better these days with their new architectures that respects the consumer.

It's what happens when you're starting off as a comedian. I don't try to execute them in pristine perfection, it probably comes off as nonsensical rambling (it does hurr durr).
