Just saw first episode of season 3. Dunno where they'll eventually go with it, but I'm really not a fan of the whole "Your fellow man are the real monsters" trope that gets thrown into media like this. It's overdone at this point IMO.

I've been saying this shit decades ago. This is why Zombie shit is so bad IMO but people eat this shit up. The theme of "Humans are the real monsters" is a horrible trope in Zombies or anything horror.

Titans are all part of one ethnic group of "humans" descended from the first one to gain the power of the titans from the Earth Devil, or something like that. She died young but split her power into 9 other major Titans. Her descendents took over a nation called Marley and turned it into their own nation, Eldia. Once that was done though, they engaged in Civil War between one another for a super long time, until Marley was resurrected and they found a way to basically control the Eldin people (Titans) as machines of war.

Those who could flee from the war did so to Paradis Island, and the Founding Titan (who Eren has inherited) controlled all the other Titans around it to construct the three major walls and I think also alter their memories so nobody has any recollection of these events?

The second season focuses on the titans again, but giving some clues about where they may have come from, and some dark mad scientist shit going. There's some hints about it, but the plot is still focused on them battling the Titans and figuring out how to get rid of them.

Then season 3 just immediately starts off with politics and government corruption bullshit that was only ever lightly touched on, if at all in the first 40 or so episodes. It came out of nowhere.

All throughout the first season there are signs of it. The key for the basement clearly setting up some huge conspiracy, plus the injection Eren received that turned him into a Titan as well as whatever the girl titan's name was being a spy clearly indicating the Titans are not what you're led to believe. Humans being able to turn into Titans make the story's path all too obivous.

Oh, don't even get me started about the opening lol.

Season 1 had one of the most pumped up, legit opening sequences/music in the history of cartoons. Season 2 was decent, not as good as the original. But it was good enough.

Season 3 though lol. Sounds like the intro to something yaoi focused.

Rewatching season 1 getting ready for 2 and 3. Theres plenty of politics in season 1, especially with the military police and the merchants. The first few episodes after Eren is reveales to be a Titan shows you how cruel humans are when they are shown something they dont understand.

That's not what I'm talking about. It's incredibly obvious that there's some sort of weird mad-science stuff going on with the titans, but I'm not referring to that.

I'm talking about in season 3, where they started off by establishing the military police as the big threat now, with them trying to capture and kill Captain Levi and the scouts.

i mean, the whole season so far has basically been about the Government somehow knowing more than they let on, and not using it to everyones best interest.
that was pretty much hinted at long ago, most notably when the Titan face appeared in the wall and the Priests reaction to it.

there's probably some of it in the Eren trial in season 1 as well.
