It sounds cool and fun, but I've heard that in actuality, it's not... But no harm in trying, I guess... Especially if you need a job, anyway. What would you want to do there? Like where would you work?

i love amusment parks, i'd like to be the ride operator or the guy checking restraints but i heard there are much more openings in food. That would be ok with me too. You've heard it's an overrated job? Yeah it ain't like you ride the rides all day.

I'm not sure if I'd say overrated. I've just heard that people thought they would like it or it would at least not suck. But they want to leave and stuff like that.

yeah i heard it's like 10 or 12 hour days and that you don't even have that much time to ride the rides.

There's a poster here that worked at Calaway Park here in Alberta. Maybe he can give his input.

Myself and another friend got kicked off the "Mind Blaster" ride last year because we were too big. We're both only 6 feet tall and 180 pounds. My other friend got to stay on though, which was awkward af. He's only like 5'8" and maybe 150 pounds.

My personal opinion is that I don't like to crap where I eat. Do you enjoy going to the amusement park? Well you're going to enjoy it a lot less once you are there 8 hours a day 5 days a week. On your day off when your friends wanna go to the amusement park, you're going to want to go anywhere but.

Just something to think about. I used to think reffing hockey would be a good way to make extra money, and instead it made me hate going to the rink when before it was my passion and my escape from work.

if you're 16-25 (ie: are in school) and need a summer job, it's a good reliable source of work with some room for advancement if you're competent.

my situation isn't the norm though. I never worked in most of the departments like foods or rides. also, other parks will be different, particularly ones with less harsh winters.

Working at an amusement park would be kind of like working retail. Both are minimum wage jobs where you spend all day doing customer service. Those jobs suck.

Actually amusement parks would be worse than retail since you would be outside all day in the heat. At least with retail you're going to be inside most of the time unless you're a cart pusher or something like that.

Google "jobs with no degree" and you will find a lot.

If you don't want to go to a traditional university, then maybe consider a trade school instead. Trades can be very good careers. Trades are careers like plumbers, electricians, carpenters, etc.

Most amusement park jobs are pretty terrible. You have to smile all the time, even while you're cleaning up some kid's barf.

The job of mascot looks fun, but it's extremely competitive, you need to be in very good shape and be a good dancer, the suits are typically extremely hot, and you have asshats who like to trip/kick/grope/etc the characters.

Ride attendants have to deal with thousands or tens of thousands of annoying customers all day. Imagine having to work the lunch rush at McDonalds all day long.

Hosts (like the boat captains on the Jungle Cruise) have to repeat the same stupid spiel dozens of times a day for years. "And there you have it, the back side of water!"

Even the interesting sounding jobs like locomotive engineer or monorail driver are incredibly boring because you just keep going around and around and around on the same track every day.

I don't think it's bad to at least get some info on it. I would say to take it all with a grain of salt, but getting info about something he's only considering isn't bad...

I worked at a small one in high school and the only cool thing about it was the coworkers. Everything else was awful. I still did it for three summers though just because I loved the coworkers and it was a guaranteed job once you got in.

it looks cool but ive heard it sucks. low pay and long hours.

like a dude used to run a few rides at the local amusement park, including the biggest and fastest roller coaster.

you get one break, and if its during hour 2 of 9, you take it. Also, I couldnt survive being outside like that but this guy must have tougher skin than I. Ive never seen somebody have such a farmers tan. His skin was almost full on brown but where his clothes cover up he was white as fuck. night and day.

overall i wouldnt do it. sounds cool and fun, but just like working at a gamestop...really shitty.

I hate going to "amusement" parks (though theres very literally NOTHING amusing about standing in a line for and hour for a 2 minute ride)

...the idea of working at one...well I guess you dont have to work if you agree to be homeless or if you kill yourself...both outcomes would be preferable...no sarcasm

"A job is a job" only goes so far. It may be a decent job for a high school or college student. However it is definitely not something you want to make a career. If you're in your 30s and still working minimum wage jobs like this, then you have pretty much failed at life.

I used to work at a 6 flags amusement park, called wild waves, and it sucked.

I worked in a food stand, so that was horrible. I got to interact with attractive girls, so that was cool, but over all the job was horrid.
