Is on sale on Steam, together with the Danganronpa series and Zero Escape - two series I kinda liked
How is Steins;Gate compared to them? isn't it like a whole series?
Are all of them good? what about the anime? manga? whatever
What kind of game is it anyway

Steins;Gate is part of the Science Adventure (aka "semicolon" series) series. Most of the titles have very little to do with each other. The obvious exception being Steins;Gate 0 is a sequel to Steins;Gate.

The Steins;Gate anime is fantastic and one of the all time best. I haven't played the VN but to my knowledge it's top notch as well.

It's a pure vn, without any other gameplay elements like the ron paul series etc..

And it's a part of the science adventure series, with vaguely """science""" themed paranormal stuff and conspiracy theory stuff going on in the background. Steins;Gate probably stands alone better than some of the other games in the series since the plot is more of a personal conflict and has less directly to do with the overarching conspiracy theory stuff. (personally I think the Chaos;Child vn was the best one, but it's not on steam and has very little mainstream appeal like Steins;gate has)

A lot of people find Steins;Gate slow at first, though it's kind of more like most of the early stuff is written more to set up later stuff and keeps getting put pushed aside to introduce new plot threads and things don't start getting unpacked and resolved until the back half.

phone trigger system is kind of sucky though.

Steins;Gate 0 is a sequel, but when I say that it's more of a fan disc/add on kind of like the answer in P3 than a complete story. Some of the plot threads are dumb and others are kind of interesting, but overall it's pretty short and ends pretty abruptly and isn't really all that essential just if you liked the first and want to see more with the same characters. Don't look up anything about 0's plot because you'll spoil the first game!

I haven't watched it but I've heard that the animu for the first game is actually a pretty solid adaptation unlike basically every entry in the series and basically every other vn. So it's a perfectly fine alternative if you don't want like 25-30 hours of straight reading (particularly since I wouldn't say that the alternate endings add all that much).

That's because a vast majority of people have just watched the (very, very good) anime, which is the exact opposite of Danganronpa's situation.

it didn't super grab me in the first hour or two, and the controls got on my nerves

I'll give it another shot at some point but I'm not yet sold

Steins;Gate is the best VN I've ever read, but it does take a bit of time to get to an interesting point.

I've watched and read both the anime and the VN and the anime follows the True End path of the VN pretty closely. The anime is probably my favorite and the VN doesn't take too long to get through plus it has all the different endings that are actually quite interesting.

The anime is amazing. It's my favorite time travel story.

Dunno about the game but I've heard it's better.
