Fontaine's deception?

The main character was his slave regardless. He kept saying "Would you kindly" regardless to make you do things.

So why even put up an Atlas act for his servant? Surely it would have been simpler just to be himself.

Granted that some other characters still alive are afraid of Fontaine. But then again "Would you kindly keep my identity unknown" would be all he needed to say.

Same. The act was dropped right after Ryan died

It was said he faked his death to get Ryan off his trail, and then Atlas become sort of a paragon figure for the whole revolution.

I'm not talking about acting like Atlas for Ryan and other characters, I'm talking about private conversations for the protagonist, exclusively.

The beauty of mind control was that he had you wrapped around his finger regardless.

And no, he didn't drop the act immediately. He kept it going until you used the key to stop the destruction of Rapture.

Those private conversations were being conducted over radio, which could have easily been intercepted by a third party like Ryans people

I mean, based on the scene in the plane, it doesnt really seem like the commands are THAT powerful, seeing as the protagonist needed a "reminder" note, and wasnt just told "would you kindly get on a plane and take it down".

Also AFAIK the player himself wasn't carrying a radio so it was public radio broadcasts for the most part

First thing you do before exiting the bathysphere is pick up a short-wave radio. Atlas WYKs you to do it even.

ah right, been a while. my bad.

he does do THAT over public radio, though, so it's plausible that he had to use the disguise at first, and kept it up over shortwave to minimize any risk of the player doing exactly what he does after the reveal.

It kind of kills the main plot twist and mood of the game when you're a mindless drone for someone, and are aware of it.

His first message comes out of the same shortwave, stuck to the wall of the bathysphere. :)

Regardless, I still think the people who said that he kept up the facade for Ryan's sake are on the mark.

Also I'm sure Fontaine gets some sick satisfaction out of staying in character and using WYK as little as possible.

would you kindly doesn't seem to be terribly strong, seems like it can be resisted to some degree. So of course Fontaine who has literally never seen this guy in action, would try to appear as the hero in his eyes. The long haul was to throw Ryan off his track and get the protagonist to trust him.

Actually the mind control was quite dominant.
