That's basically what any modern (non alt rock) band is doing these days. I maybe understand a singer not wanting to fuck up their voice on a long tour but I don't see why anyone would want to pay to watch someone lip sync or mime their instruments (if they even play any instruments at all).
And as a performer, how can you honestly believe that you're giving fans their money's worth. Just to see you jump around in person? Well, more like on their cell phones while they record the show.
