How do you go through a good quarter of your life without learning that people can genuinely believe in killing for the sake of something seemingly meaningless to us? People can be led to believe anything enough to kill for. It's not a matter of kindness or evil. Our minds can be really weak and easily influenced. If they wanted to send a life message though, they got what they wanted

I think people are missing the point.

Their "mission" was based on their belief that evil was some sort of man made label.

But you can easily bring up many, many people under different beliefs who came up poor and were great loving people and those who were privileged who were also sociopaths/psychopaths.

The fact it happened somewhere close to the middle east is irrelevant.

Them getting killed by extremists and evil individuals is where the irony lies.

I think most people by even early 20's learn that evil is in the eyes of the beholder at best. But these couples specifically went to a region where people are regularly killed fruitlessly to show that they're not like what the media portrayed them to be. Which they were pretty obviously wrong. The response of "well yeah, duh" is not worth 4 lives

Most evil is committed because the one doing it feels they are doing something good. They feel so righteous that it allows them to commit heinous acts. That doesn't mean evil is subjective or just a social construct as that couple would like to believe. It's just how evil likes to operate. It's the devil in the brain.

They're pretty sure it's just some small political party that they've had issues with in the past that's claimed allegiance to ISIS.

Also I think there were 7 people bicycling and only 4 were killed? Odd they wouldn't get everyone.

Trust me, there will always be a new Terrorist organization at some point in time.

At one point it was the IRA / Real-IRA in Ireland.

Then there's Brazil & Columbia against FARC (19642017).
Even with the formal surrender of arms of FARC, there are still dissidents amongst them who haven't given up.

It's going to happen globally no matter what.

Be it Cartels or ISIS or something else.

Only to get brutally murdered by ISIS terrorists

https://www.pluralist.com/posts/1824-millennial-couple-bikes-through-isis-territory-to-prove-humans-are-kind-and-gets-killed/partners/44197

"Evil is a make-believe concept we've invented to deal with the complexities of fellow humans."

An idealistic young American couple was killed in an Islamic State-claimed terrorist attack last month while on a cycling trip around the world.

Jay Austin and Lauren Geoghegan, who were both in their late 20s, last year quit their office jobs in Washington, DC, to embark on the journey. Austin, a vegan who worked for the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, and Geoghegan, a vegetarian who worked in the Georgetown University admissions office, decided that they're were wasting their lives working.

"Ive grown tired of spending the best hours of my day in front of a glowing rectangle, of coloring the best years of my life in swaths of grey and beige, Austin wrote on his blog before he quit. Ive missed too many sunsets while my back was turned. Too many thunderstorms went unwatched, too many gentle breezes unnoticed.

The couple documented their year-long journey on Instagram and on a joint blog. As The New York Times put it, they shared "the openheartedness they wanted to embody and the acts of kindness reciprocated by strangers."

You read the papers and youre led to believe that the world is a big, scary place," Austin wrote.

People, the narrative goes, are not to be trusted. People are bad. People are evil."

I dont buy it," he continued. "Evil is a make-believe concept weve invented to deal with the complexities of fellow humans holding values and beliefs and perspectives different than our own... By and large, humans are kind. Self-interested sometimes, myopic sometimes, but kind. Generous and wonderful and kind.

However, Austin and Geoghegan's dream trip came to a tragic and gruesome end when they got to Tajikistan, a country with a known terrorist presence. They were riding their bikes through the country on July 29 when a car rammed them, according to CBS News. Five men got out of the car and stabbed the couple to death along with two other cyclists, one from Switzerland and the other from the Netherlands.

Two days later, ISIS released a video showing the same men sitting in front of the black ISIS flag. They looked at the camera and vowed to kill "disbelievers," according to The New York Times.

Does this count as a Darwin award?

Yeah. I'd say so.

It's ISIS . . . they're already the worst, burning museums n shit, I'm sure ya'll remember that.

Outrage and political capital are just all the more reason what they did was stupid and frankly, immoral.
Same for people that go to North Korea.

If you get locked up, kidnapped, etc . . . if someone pays your ransom, congrats you just funded terrorism, if we have to send Bill Clinton, we just wasted political capital, we have to send in special forces, you risked the lives of dozens.

Tell you what, I'll respect their wishes and not write my Congressmen to have them avenged. Do you really think they'd want a cruise missile coming down over their deaths?

At first glance, sure. I'm talking about heinous acts, not taste buds. There comes a point where subjectivity ceases to be an apt characterization. At that point it's about delusion, self-delusion. Self-delusion (denial of objective reality) easily leads to evil.

All of these things are real: subjectivity, objectivity, delusion, reality, evil and good
