Personally I never update unless something is broken. If the device works, why risk bricking it?

I installed it, and haven't had any issues with it yet.

HOWEVER

while owning a pixel 1, I went through 5 phones because the software update bricked the phone. I haven't had any issues with pixel 2 yet, but be wary; backup yo shit first

My pixel 2 upgraded to android 9 with no issue, so you should be fine
