When you were a kid in elementary it's easy.

Me seeing a bunch of kids on the playground playing tag: can I join you guys?

Them: ok

*instant friends throughout elementary*

As an adult... what, join singles classes or something? Use the internet? Oh god I'd cry myself to sleep if I ever resorted to the internet for a human connection.

Most people do it through work or neighbors.

I have gone out with the guys from work interestingly enough. On separate occasions even. But I don't think it's a good fit.

Just wanted to say I didn't understand this post at all until I saw that climbing topic and now it all makes sense.

I feel bad for people that have high need for an active social life in 2018.

I mean mine consists of a few close friends and I'm content with it but being that guy in college that required 25 friends and never being alone? I'm sure falling out of that is pretty miserable.

I don't want more friends as an adult. With family up my ass about taking care of the older ones and setting a good example for the younger ones, last thing I need is even more people in my life that I'm close enough with they'll factor into my decisions.

I've got 5 people maybe. That's more then I need.

Yeah, my good friends are all far away now so I don't get to hang with friends much anymore.

But life is work study then sleep work and study more so it's not like I have too much time for an active social life.

Life is boring.

As an adult, I realized I don't want to make friends. Family is rewarding and time consuming enough, plus I already have old friends.

Pretty much hits everyone hard after college, some take it better than others.

Everyone moves and/or is busy with their job, gf, etc.

Basically left with a few friends, gf and a hundred acquaintances.

Social circles shrink and its harder to find people with similar interests. Youre pretty much left with people you work with and neighbors.

Indeed. My small core group of friends from middle school and on are still close by. My fiancee asks nearly weekly if I would ever move out of state. No way. Making friends in your thirties sounds like a fucking headache.
