I mainly think of bi girls as the black sheep in the lgbt mix. If you count experimental phases...the numbers skyrocket. I personally dont care about the lgbt grouping either way though, I think its odd to group in avowed gay/lesbian folks with bi people. When you go out for the night to a bar, its gonna be to a gay bar or a straight bar - make a choice.

I'd say bisexuals are the black sheep.

TBH I've heard some pretty vile stuff from Gays / Lesbians towards Bisexuals. And in my time in the LGBTQ club, they got little to no representation/discussions towards them.

This post manages to cram every bullshit stereotype about bisexuals in it. Great job.

Aye, there seems to be a lot of discourse about bi people being "het invaders" and actively hurting gay people by existing. People do experiment and gay people can get hurt through that, and a bad situation where an experimenting person goes exclusively straight - or a bi person leaves them for a member of the opposite sex - can be really shitty and fuel this behavior.

Discrimination can begin by being victimised by one person out of a whole group, and that experience leads to someone generalising the whole group because of the intense emotional fallout that results from that situation. The difference between being some dickhead TERF and an open, caring person is being able to see the forest from the trees, and recognising the struggle that people face for not being straight rather than framing a whole group of people in the same light as one person who hurt you.

You have a right to feel poorly about the people who have hurt you, and I wouldn't blame someone for being bitter about someone and their ilk over a really shitty break-up. But discrimination and splintering groups into subgroups and encouraging the "othering" of other discriminated groups for "invading" your space with a fraudulent "excuse" just turns you into someone who necessitated the use of a singular queer "community". Bi people aren't necessarily accepted by straight or gay people, trans people have trouble being accepted by both men or women - that's why they're a part of the acronym, to help support those labelled as the "other" while being supported in turn.

Now ace people are attacked with the same rhetoric bi people have been attacked with. They're hetero invaders, they aren't queer enough, they don't face real persecution like everybody else. Despite there being a significant degree of social pressure to have sex, despite stories of men and women who have gone so far as to get married and suffer through years of unenjoyable sex before the asexual label hit them like a ton of bricks and led to a better, more harmonious understanding of themselves. The same way a gay person finds pride in their discovery, in the same way that a trans woman finds her true self after years of repression and/or not truly understanding how she felt. You would think that groups of people who have been beaten and sworn at with antagonistic slurs would learn the value of accepting others and looking out for their own - instead, they parcel off their spaces and screech at those who are "other", just like the brain-dead fundie morons and other -phobes of the world. It's disgraceful. Fighting against homophobia? Cool, there's a great reason that necessitates this. Attacking trans people? Now you're just being a prick and punching down.

The meaning of the acronym to me is to band together and support those who aren't socially accepted, and to help and raise each other along the way. Gay and bi people are becoming more accepted - it would be nice for gay and bi people to support the trans, pan, genderqueer or otherwise queer person who have clung to the acronym and supported them for as long as they have, instead of being shaken off like pond-scum by TERFs and other fuckfaces.

I had a gay friend somewhat like that. Felt bi people were taking the "easy way" out, or at least have the option.

I ultimately dont think it matters. You love who you love, and if you want a monogamous relationship, you'll end up with either genders. And it's not like everyone "picks", and the attraction suddenly goes away for the opposite sex.

As a man, I think it sucks that some women wont date bi men. My sister literally said "If i already have to watch them around women, i can't handle having to also watch them around men." But i guess that's also trust issues.

Maybe it's because I'm on the outside looking in, but it does kind of seem like the T in LGBT is kind of tacked on. I get a sense of "one of these things is not like the others, one of these things doesn't belong".

because you guys changed. you started transitioning and getting legal gender changes. we're not in the same boat anymore, basically. Trans people used to have to live like gay people, they had no other option. Now after after you get enough work done, you can basically live like straight people do. So why are you guys still trying to hold onto your gay card?

It just makes sense. >_> I'm not the only gay who realizes it either. I do make a distinction between pre and post op though.

Like was said earlier, we are still given that gay card, regularly by idiots. Like it or not, a large number of people will always lump trans and gay together in the current world we live in. Now what you are talking about are the hidden trans people that aren't know about. They only avoid it because those same people just can't tell that that a person is trans. They STILL lump them with gay people, they just don't even realize.

Maybe they get lumped in because most trans people have relationships with people who are the same sex that the trans person was born as. That's the impression I get anyway.

I don't think it's a lumping together done out of malice.
