"You should see the remake. It's better than the original. Who cares if they changed a bunch of stuff."

Let me break it down in the simplest of terms: quality is limited. The best movie ever made -- The Godfather, Casablanca, Pulp Fiction, Gone With the Wind, your favorite movie here -- is only twice as enjoyable as your average good film. There's no such thing as a 20/10 film experience. And the same thing applies to TV shows, video games, and so forth.

If a person doesn't want an alternate version of a story that holds a special place in their memories, they don't have to accept it. It's okay to miss out on a good film or a good TV show. I promise you and I and everyone we know will die having missed out on many, many good stories.

If a person simply has their mind made up what a story is to be, if that chapter is complete, they've no obligation to give the sequel or remake a chance. Those cherished memories mean more than the baseline quality of a story ever could.
