90% of the time. i wear them at work, to bars/clubs, out to nice dinners. the only places i wear casual shoes is the gym, running quick errands, or family dinners at someones house. other than that i'm at home shoeless

i'm gonna make a topic with more details at some point, but the monk strap is the perfect medium between dressed up and casual. it dresses down the dress shoe, but the leather and shape of the shoe still dresses up the outfit, if that makes sense. and they definitely stand out compared to laces, always a plus if you want to add some oomph to an outfit. i understand if it's not your thing though

gotta wear something, and if you're gonna spend money on something, it should be something that separates you from the ground. looks, comfort, durability are well worth it. not like i spent my life's fortune on them, i can easily afford them on my budget and think they were well worth it

it's both in this case. let me break it down for you:

design: these shoes are custom designed by me, i picked the size, color, shape of the shoe, leather material, and material of the sole, so the shoes are handcrafted in spain and look amazing
comfort: as mentioned, since i got to pick the shape of the shoe (called the last), i picked one that fits my feet perfectly. combined with the leather quality, tomir sole and cork footbed that molds to your feet over time, these are all as comfortable as sneakers to me
leather: these are full grain top grain leather from one of the top tanneries in the world. this type of leather actually ages really well and looks better over time. they breathe well so my feet don't sweat and are super comfortable. i don't even need to wear socks
construction: the soles are goodyear welted onto the shoes themselves, this means that after the soles wear down, they can easily be replaced by a cobbler instead of just getting a new pair. these shoes are literally built to last a lifetime

there is a MASSIVE difference between cheap dress shoes and my shoes. imo it's ok to spend money as long as you know exactly what you're spending your money on and why it is worth it. for all these reasons, i deem these shoes worth their price and my salary allows me to comfortable buy them...so why shouldn't i since i actually understand what im buying?

i challenge you to find me cheaper dress shoes that have all the same qualifications as mine. i don't think you'll be able to as i literally spend hundreds of hours doing this research before buying @1337toothbrush

It's only stupid if they don't get what they want for their money. After all, we've already left the realm of utility value.

well, if what they want is recognition/status, i still consider that to be stupid. it's like the guys who buy a rolex for the status, but don't understand the mechanics of an automatic watch. i don't know what you mean by utility value, as far as shoes anything that covers your feet has the same utility value. however, there is still greater payoff for increased price. that is, until you reach the point of diminishing returns. there are shoes that cost more than the $500-$600 i spent on each of mine, but i deemed this price point to be the point of diminishing returns, once you get to $700+ you're not getting $200 more of quality a shoe. whereas between a $100 pair and mine, you are definitely getting $400 of value (lasts a lifetime, comfort, style)
