Most of the non-plastic alternatives aren't disability-friendly.

Steel/metal straws can easily burn you. Paper straws typically turn to mush before the drink can be finished. Other materials often run afoul of common allergies.

All this to mention the inconvenience of acquiring/transporting your own alternative straws.
