15% is the lowest. 20% is the new normal.

I swear the greed for tips in exchange for mediocre service is something that is considered normal, only in the States.

I envy places in Asia. I would gladly tip the same amount in the U.S for service like that.

Seriously, anytime I go to restaurants in NYC, all they do is bring you water and menus in a rush. Service ends after that. You'd have to raise your hand to get any attention.

I dont have any problem with people who dont tip or tip a low amount, as long as they let their server know in advance that they dont tip or only tip X amount.

Tipping is optional, just like washing your hands after you go to the bathroom - but its common courtesy to let people around you know if youre not going to do either, yeah?

I live in NYC and always aim for 15% but usually overshoot cause I just do a rough guesstimate and know it's not gonna be exactly 15%. I probably end up doing around 17% or 18%

I mean are they supposed to stand a couple feet away awaiting instruction?

-Take drinks
-bring drinks
-take order
-depending on how long food takes check on drinks
-bring food
-check back in a few make sure food is good and all that.

After that it all depends on the guests mood, zpeed etc.

People who don't wash should have a 50% gratuity plus 10$ "being a gross dick" fee added to their bill.

And that be asked to never return.

What I hate are all these fast food places that have their credit card readers ask if you want a tip.
If I'm not getting table service, I'm not leaving a tip, so stop trying to trick people into thinking that tipping for fast food is normal.

bra people have been asking for tips for take outs. You have to be diligent or 15% is added on the tab.

Also, street vendors have tip jars as well. People are way too greedy.

Always thought the percentage was stupid. Did it take more effort to bring me a $20 steak compared to a $5 burger? No. I should really be tipping the cook.

Nobody gets paid less then $13.5 in NYC and it'll be $15 next year.

NY doesn't do that $1 minimum wage bull shit like other backwards states do.
