It's actually called Eggy Bread in most of England. And it's usually more savoury, with no sugar/vanilla/cinnamon added and salt instead. Tomato ketchup or brown sauce are the usual condiments to eat with it.

I live in America but the only time I had excellent french toast was in Aruba. It was thicker and just delicious, but I don't know enough about culinary stuff to say why it was so much better.

We went back to Aruba and one of the main reasons we chose the same resort was that the french toast was so good, no kidding.
