Nevermind, I already know. It's still the uncontested greatest Metroid game of all time, carry on.

It's good enough, but it would be better with Zero Mission controls and physics tbqh

ITs still one of the best games to sequence break and speed/challenge run.

I hated Fusion's controls and physics. The ledge hanging felt out of place, and I hated how heavy you were. Not to mention it feels like there's a little pause every time you land on the ground. It doesn't have the same flow.

The remake for Metroid II? I haven't played it...

Great game, ok aging. Control is super duper clunky but otherwise it's pretty good.

That's why I said Zero Mission and not Fusion

ZM is actually even heavier, but the movement is really smooth and the shine spark has ball options. Ledge grab was an upgrade, so it wouldn't be in super, and the charge beam isn't nearly as good as super missiles (as opposed to Fusion's OP af charge beam)

Also, ZM single wall jumps >>> SM single wall jumps

I just hate how floaty and slow SM is

That's what makes it feel like you're on a different planet.

Although, it would be really cool if like the deeper you got the more gravity there was or something...

It's in the Metroid "God Tier" along with Prime IMO. Best 2D and 3D Metroid respectively.

Metroid samus returns > super metroid

Ultimately, it depends on what you look for in a Metroid game, so I'm not going to disagree too strongly.

I personally place the structure and level design above pretty much everything else, which is why I like Super so much. SR has too many "hard locks" for my liking (e.g. you can't go here unless you kill X Metroids), which greatly reduce the open-endedness and replayability. Return of Samus had the same issue of course (AM2R rectifies it somewhat, so I prefer it to both). Super, on the other hand, has so many different sequence breaks and advanced techniques to try that it keeps me coming back for more. If you add in randomizer runs, the replay value is nearly infinite.

I came across some blog posts a few months back that sum up many of the reasons I like the game so much: https://nickkooy.blogspot.com/2011/05/20-reasons-why-super-metroid-is.html
