I played a big chunk of this game about a year ago or so and unlocked all the basic cards for all the Heroes (Need 1 more with Shaman), but where do I go from here?

I see that there is a lot of DLC out now, are they all good? Can I unlock new cards somewhere in the game or is it all paid for now?

I get that, but how does it work? Is it packs of cards like a Magic: The Gathering game would be? Do the new DLC add new Heroes with new powers? Can you win extra cards without paying, but it's just a lot slower?

A "pack" of cards consist of 5 random cards which you can buy via gold or real money.
If you intend to be F2P you need to log in every day and do all daily quest for a bit of gold.
Furthermore you are awarded 10 gold for winning 3 ranked/casual matches.
Finally pray you get good drops.

Alternatively you can just spend lots of money and grind all the dupes until you got enough dust to craft a reddit approved legend ranked deck.

Honestly don't know cause I did not put any money down for them.
But looking around it appears that yes there is exclusive cards and heros to "earn" by beating the DLC.

The "DLC" are different sets of cards. The best Standard mode decks will typically use a few cards from most of the available sets.

There are different heroes, but they're just cosmetic. Medivh and Khadgar are both mage heroes, but they just have a different portrait and voice lines.

This is the best tip so far. I gave up playing Hearthstone 'competitively' months ago as the power-creep, not to mention the RNG, is insane. It's much more fun mucking around at bad ranks with home-brew decks. Also as you're a new player DO NOT PLAY WILD YET. You will get stomped even at Rank 20 by insane decks like Aggro Paladin variants, Dragon Priest and even more ridiculous Shudderwock decks.

Out of curiosity, is Hearthstone your first card game?

I played Magic for years and years, but stopped in 2012 or so. At least paper Magic. I played a couple of the DotPW Steam games, and I would love to play those, but no one plays them. I've asked three times on here, even offering to buy the game(s) for people so we could play, but no one took me up on it

Echo cards put a shadow copy of themselves into your hand when you play them. These copies disappear at the end of your turn. So you can play an Echo card as many times as you can afford it. So the dog you played in that screenshot is a 2 mana card; at 10 mana, you could play five dogs from one card.

This would be a better comparison if WotC gave you at least half the price of a card pack for playing every day and that you could buy a Black Lotus if you gave them a big pile of cards you shredded.

Hearthstone isn't amazing when it comes to F2P games, but I'm pretty sure it's cheap as hell compared to a physical TCG.

Yeah, I have a horrible relationship with paper Magic because of this. I like like 12,000 card over the years, going all the way back to Beta, and no one would play with me because it wasn't 2012 or whatever dog shit version they were playing, thus making every single card I had invalid.

Well it seems like I have a lot of these hunt things I can do, so that will give me something to do.

I got to the third person on my "Hunt" thing, fucking up because I didn't read her Ability correctly. I thought she could only bring over 1 monster of mine that had a power of 1, but she could take them all. And I had a lot of them out there thanks to some "add 3 1/1s" and stuff.

This is pretty much what I want. I just wanted a fun podcast game. If I get into it, then yeah, I might put some money into it. But right now, I just wanted to play a new game
