I started it a couple weeks ago and I've lost 13 pounds. I think I've got the keto flu right now, but apparently it only lasts a few days. My goal is to lose 30 pounds and it seems definitely in reach.

Intentionally putting your body in ketoacidosis never struck me as particularly smart.

The problem with these, "diets", is that once you go back to your old eating habits the weight goes back on fast. So unless you intend on staying in ketosis instead of actually being physically active, dont go back to carbs.

Keto is another meme diet.

Giving yourself "keto fever" doesnt sound fun, at all.

You don't. Ketoacidosis is entirely different than ketosis and only occurs in people with type 1 diabetes.

It's great. Never felt better. Lost 80 pounds and didn't have to deal with the suffering that straight up CICO diets put you through.

I did it for a few months, I lost something like 40 pounds. Now mind you, I was (and still am) poor. So part of the weight loss could have been from simply eating less.

Also, I only did Keto 6 days per week and had 1 cheat day (occasionally I'd cheat on 2 days per week, but for the most part, it was only once).

Also, I did a variant of it that had a little more carb intake since i was hitting the gym pretty hard at the time. So for most people, you should try to hover around 20-50 grams of net carbs per day. I was aiming for 50-75. But if you're not working out, don't go higher than 50.

I'm doing it again now, but more of the carnivore version. So meat only. No dairy or veggies or anything, just meat. It's going ok.

Wouldn't the cheat days just take you out of ketosis?

My girlfriend's probably going back on keto to try and drop some weight, and it confuses the hell out of me. We're in the middle of moving me in, but once I do, I'm contributing to meal planning so there's not the temptation to have buffalo wings four times a week or anything.

The frustrating thing is that it works - for a while, (and I'm betting it's water weight), but then it either tapers off, or the desire for pasta gets to be too much. Keto just strikes me as far too similar to a fad unless you're in one of the very special groups where it's medically recommended.

I might drink like a fish, eat plenty of pasta, and be generally not-that-healthy myself, but I may as well try to introduce some greenery to the mix, because I'm inevitably going to try to carb-cut in support.

I tried an extremely strict keto diet for 3 weeks and ended up losing around 10 pounds. I never got any sort of flu or illness like some say they get the only noticeable side effect was I had a sort of fruity taste or breath that lasted a few days.

It's worth doing if you're looking to drop some weight fast, but you have to be pretty disciplined to stick with it and that's where most people fail. There are numerous benefits though, which you will find if you ever give it a shot. The body reacts to keto in a similar way as it does to fasting, and the benefits of fasting are well-documented also.

Right now my diet is pretty much moderate-high protein (I work out six days a week), pretty high on the fats and then very, very low carb. I also tend to eat just one meal per day, so throw OMAD (one meal a day) and intermittent fasting in there as well. I am not 100% strict with it.. like maybe one or two days a week my girlfriend will want to go out to eat and that's cool. I am still making steady progress toward my goal of losing a bit of weight and being more "cut."

For me the main benefit of any low carb diet is that it gets you off the blood sugar rollercoaster. Energy levels are consistent rather than being high and then crashing down again requiring you to rush for more high carb energy sources. I have no craving for any types of food (especially sweets which are my weakness) and I never feel hungry or deprived at all. If you get to that point I think it makes it really easy to stick to any diet.

Well in Keto, you count macros, not calories.

While it's true, I found that it was not worth my time to count calories. They more or less fell in line when I was counting carbs.

That doesn't make sense to me. The reason the keto diet works is because people generally naturally consume less calories on it. If you eat 3200 calories of cheese, fats, vegetables, and meat a day, and you are in ketosis, you will not lose weight if your daily need is 3200 calories. It's absolutely necessary not to overeat.

Pastas are so simple with zucchini. I chunk them for penne, and I have a spiralizer for noodles. It works amazingly.

I even made a lasagna with cauliflower sheets. Crush it down into a ricelike consistency, butter, bake.

I do the carb night solution. 9 days on to start, then you do a cheat day no more than once every four days. The big thing with keto is dodging high fructose corn syrup. That crap destroys your ketosis.
