This is something that surprises me. You'd think the comics themselves would've been working for the past four years or so on promoting someone else to mega-villain status. None of the choices beyond Galactus really make that much sense to me.

You can lower the stakes for an individual film, but you can't turn around and have a Latvarian dictator as the follow-up to a cosmic being who wanted to end all life throughout the universe. I understand Dr. Doom became a god at some point, or something like that, but it would still take a lot of buildup to get to that point.

It'd be like the James Bond series when they lost the rights to SPECTRE. You have this terrorist organization behind six out of the first seven films, then the next movie sees 007 battling some random drug pusher. You can't do that today.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe can't go backward. It can't be without a series villain and it can't have a villain who's less of a threat than Thanos. If they try to go either way, there will be a significant drop in movie attendance over the next two or three years.

Doom will be a Loki/Thanos hybrid not in terms of personality but in terms of role. With the big threat being Galactus set up over the next few phases a la Infinity War

1st Infinity War movie:
- Thanos motivation should have been to sacrifice half of all life to power up the gauntlet to combat a bigger threat. He tells a captured Avenger about this bigger threat. Movie ends with a silhouette of what vaguely resembles Galactus.

2nd Infinity War movie:
- Avengers manage to defeat Thanos
- An avenger tries to use the gauntlet to reset time but its out of power.
- The Silver Surfer appears before them all and overhead in the sky they see Galactus who is readying himself to consume Earth
- Thanos says hell sacrifice himself to power up the gauntlet
- That Avenger is about to use the gauntlet on Thanos but then the Silver Surfer attacks to prevent the gauntlets use.
- The avenger manages to use it and everything is reset except for Thanos who is permanently left dead.
- The gauntlet & gems having already been broken are now disintegrating into nothingness.
- That one Avenger is the only one to remember Galactus. This would mirror the first Avengers movie where Tony Stark goes through the wormhole portal and sees the bigger threat of an antire alien fleet.

The next 10 MCU movies are a setup to a showdown with Galactus. Youre welcome.

These are my guesses too, although I'd love to add Onslaught as a wildcard. It'd be a hell of a way to introduce Xmen/mutants into the MCU.

I remember reading that Marvel is going to shift focus to the cosmic side of the MCU coming up....so I would say Galactus, Skrulls or Annihilus.

I can't see them doing Kang without Doom, and I think they'll save Dark Phoenix for the 3rd go-around, once the X-men have been integrated and have a movie or two under their belt.

Living Tribunal would make a good Avengers story even if it was originally a Dr. Strange thing.

That's one of those things you can up the ante but tone it down for the future movies without it feeling weird.

Isn't Thanos with the IG significantly above Galactus? Especially because the latter only targets a planet at a time, he isn't exactly the existential threat that IG Thanos is.

Galactus finally arrives, Doom steps up to stop him but accidentally opens a portal to the Negative Zone where Annihilus begins his invasion.

Iron Man will at least be left alive and "retire" but appear occasionally like he did in Homecoming

Thor will probably just continue being in movies, Hemsworth said he wants to keep going and I don't think they would say no especially after how positive the reception was to Ragnarok and his parts in Infinity War
