Went with my wife to Mass today in the morning and almost took 2 hours because they spent a good chunk of that time showing a useless video on how great the "priesthood" is and why young men should join it. It was 30 minutes of them regurgitating the same crap over and over again like "you get to serve God!", "you get to help people get closer to Jesus!" and "you get to host mass every single day!". I'm just laughing my ass off because after the video some high level priest guy or something went up and started spouting recently they reached their lowest priest shortage for another 15-20 minutes. Then he starts to ask stupid questions to the guys in the church like "How come you guys don't want to join the priesthood? What better job is there than to serve God and Jesus?"

Like I'm just laughing my ass off because the solution to their problem is a very easy fix, but the literal reason they don't do it is because of "muh traditions". I don't normally have a problem going to mass with my Wife because she's Catholic while I'm an Atheist, I just think that extending the mass time over something so stupid like this is just irritating. It wasn't a first communion or some special event, it was because they think this video is going to solve their priest shortage problem. I refuse to believe the people running the Catholic Church are this stupid.

Whenever they deviated from the typical sermon, we would always get up and go. Sometimes we would walk in and see the Church was set up for the youth band. We would instantly leave.

Being a priest would solve alot of my problems but I am not able to attach myself to catholic beliefs. And I don't want to make my life a lie

I would normally do this, but the last time they played a video it was for a religious non-profit organization that actually got a working pipline for clean water in some part of South Africa. I thought it was an actual good video because it showed actual progress being made and I donated to them because I know how hard it is to maintain a pipeline like that. I was expecting another well informed video like that, but no instead we get this garbage that was way too long for its own good.

At the church we go to, the youth mass is usually 5pm on Sundays, the morning 8am mass is usually where all the old people go to or the ones that just want to get it done and over with. No idea why they played it on that schedule.

Nah, churches are dying out in general because most people are either becoming agnostic in their belief or are just being irreligous in general. There are still a lot of Christians, just that most of them are seeing the light at how stupid the concept of Sunday mass are. You dont need to do these religious ceremonies to believe in God.

Of course, younger people are less likely to be religious. Any church that tries to target the youth will have lower attendance. Traditional churches will have higher attendance, but, like my old Southern Baptist church that i used to attend when i was younger, the retention rate for those churches are probably very low. Im just glad people are being irreligious, but the only religion im afraid of most is the Muslim religion because the rate in which people deconvert is much lower than any other religion.

it's because in most parts of the world where it is heavily practiced, you'll be executed or severely persecuted if you are any other religion

it seems to be rising in the west too though. Im actually talking about the west. it's already conquered the middle east. that's just a given. but people outside the middle east are now turning to it

Yeah, it's amazing how my local diocese still has the nerve to beg its parishioners for the bishop's appeal every year after having to pay out tens of millions years ago for covering up several cases of sexual abuse.

The catholic church, as an organization, deserves to wither and die imo.

A few priests out of thousands. I mean good but they still hide and protect the vast majority of them. Still!
They operated (and still operate) a large home a couple of towns over in the hills like the one they showed in Spotlight where the pedophile priests are sent for "rehabilitation" or whatever bs they want to convince themselves it is. It's hiding them. They hold parish retreats there if you can believe that and these bastards act as the hosts.
Again, I got way too involved. I saw way too much behind the curtain with the way the church operates that I simply cannot deal with any of their bs anymore.
But anyway. Honest to god I hope I live to see the day the catholic church loses it's tax exempt status in this country. The fallout from their books finally being seen and the fact that they'll finally have to operate according to laws would outright stun people. For different reasons obviously but on the same level of outrage as when the pedophile priests came out.
