Bare bones story and combat.

-Waiting for 100% slows combat down

-Use item, swing weapon or use magic. Those are your options.

-Well theres weapon charges but they suck.

-Magics over powered for healing and offense.

With all that said i actually love the game. Good sprites/animation/music.

only good on multi player and that is only good because that was really unique in 1995 or whenever it was released.

I've replayed it 3 times over the years, and it's worse every time I go back to it. The music and visuals are still pleasant, but from a technical standpoint, it's extremely frustrating. Hit detection is weird, weapon charging is pointless, magic is broken, etc. It's just a mess.

Its probably the worse multiplayer ever. Bosses are already magic spam fests and combats so bare bones and basic that ai does well enough.

This.

After playing SD3, Secret of Mana just feels clunky, awkward, and boring.

Kinda. No idea why Square went ahead with the remake without making the game better. Sure you cant really fix the janky combat because that would be changing the soul of the game. But the rest of the game feels just as mindless going back to it. There were only like, 2 side quests and both of them just involved talking to 1 or 2 people. The game is fun even by yourself but its also bad.

They shouldve pulled what Nintendo did with Metroid 2 imo but that wouldnt have gone well with the people who wear nostalgia glasses for the game.

you can definitely tell the game was unfinished and it's definitely a product of it's time. as others have said, SD3 is where it's at. also, like others, i still love the game because nostalgia.

I think I played this in 1 or 2 sittings. Loved it. Got the actual cartridge from Goodwill for 3$ a few years ago

Based on the reviews I read and the snippets of new tracks I heard, it's like they went out of their way to ruin everything the original did right while fixing nothing that it did wrong.

Pretty much how I feel about it, though I've never gotten a chance to play SD3. Secret of Mana 2 getting teased in Nintendo Power and then never coming stateside was one of my great gaming disappointments as a kid.

It was the game that I bought with my SNES many years ago and I found it very underwhelming at the time. Thankfully, a Blockbuster full of games to rent quickly changed my view of the console.

The remakes fine. Sword and spear, for example, have a wider range in 3d. 12 items is way too generous. Dashings much better. Game feels easier. Im a couple of hours in so far.

I actually thought about playing it. It looks cheap and unimaginative, but I figured they would have done at least something to the issues in the original.
