So here's the story:

A Constable (Not a regular cop) goes to an apartment building and he is armed. He is serving an eviction notice to a tenant. The Constable had been there twice previously to talk to this man.

This time when he knocks on the door the tenant sticks his head out, sees who it is and basically says "yeah, i'm not being evicted" (paraphrased) and shuts the door. A little bit later the door opens back up and the tenant is holding a rifle. Right behind the tenant is his daughter. She was around 8 or 9.

All in the matter of a second or two the tenant raises the rifle. The Constable draws his gun and fires hitting the tenant in the arm.

The problem is the bullet passed through the arm of the tenant and hit his daughter killing her.

The tenant was just found guilty of the homicide of his daughter.

It's a sad af story and just kind of strange.

Guy put his young daughter in danger and got her killed. He is responsible. Fair, next.

Yeah that's how the vast majority of the people in the area feel.

I want to clarify too that I'm not saying this is wrong or anything... I just thought it was a weird story.

That moron should not have shot. Her death is on him. What kind of idiot shoots when there is a little girl so close? What a coward.

Many cops are reckless. There are countless stories of cops firing there guns at fleeing criminals in the middle of a crowd. And just last week a guy was shooting at cops in LA and they fired back and killed a woman standing near him

There was also a story once where a cop was in someone's house and panicked when a dog entered the room. They tried to shoot the dog and hit a little girl instead but she lived

Also after the shooting the dog was playful and not attacking at all

Why is it classified as homicide?

IIRC if a child dies due to parent negligence I believe it counts as negligent homicide, which is probably what's being used here as the charge.

That makes a lot more sense as a negligent classification, thanks for the response.

On cue, lol.

Guy pulls gun on cop, cop shoots first so as not to die. "Wtf what a reckless pos".

At that rate, you might as well blame the doctors for being unable to save her, since you guys like to blame the people affected and not the cause

Cops sign up for the job. That may mean being put in dangerous situations. In this case its unclear but from what I read it doesnt sound like the guy wasnt going to fire on the cop. THe cop freaked out and thought about saving his own life rather than thinking about the girl who he shot.

Its fine if you dont want to die but then dont become a cop. As a police officer you need to put other lives (especially children) above saving yourself. Which is exactly what he did here.

They aren't. Funny enough, people on potd think CE is full of freaks too. Everyone just sits on their board, hears rumors of bad things and gneralizes. It's like living in ancient times when nobody ever traveled and believed every stereotype

Let's be honest, if you point a gun at a cop, you're pretty much responsible for anything that happens after that point.

What was his specific charge? I would say this should be negligent homicide. He acted in negligence and it resulted in the death of his daughter.
