I remember when some people thought Link would be a girl and some people really, really wanted Link to be a girl. And in think most of those people got disappointed when BotW Link was confirmed a dude and mad when Linkle was introduced, because she wasn't good enough.

My position has always been they should either make a spinoff in which Zelda is the protagonist, like Super Princess Peach did, or make an entry in which you can select Zelda or Link. now to be fair, she does take an active role in the flashback scenes, but in the actual game it's your typical "damsel in distress" plot...
