idk, Mara was definitely one of my huge wants from the sequel trilogy which, so far, has been perhaps more disappointing than the prequel trilogy (although I enjoyed the parts of TLJ *not* featuring Finn & Rose, whose pointless, nonsensical sidequest made TPM's pod race look good)

For a mega-franchise like Star Wars, I can't imagine any of the authors having rights to the characters they create. That likely only happens with authors of non-franchises.

Mara Jade has been written in a ton of books that weren't written by Timothy Zahn. I seriously doubt Zahn had to give his approval to each author beforehand.

Heck, Thrawn has been used in the Rebels TV series, and Thrawn is another Zahn creation. I doubt Zahn had to give his approval for Thrawn in Rebels either.

If Disney wants to write a story where Chewbacca rapes Mara Jade in the ass, they can do it, and I seriously doubt Zahn has any power to stop them from doing it.

There's an argument to be made that it was the best part of Episode 1, pointless though it was. It spawned a great spinoff game, too.

If I was Disney I would have there be a cameo of Mara Jade.

She would pronounce her name wrong.

She got very popular though. Married Luke and everything. I remember playing her/Imperial campaign in Galactic Battlegrounds. I so wish that title got some... better... work and updates. Course now EA would probably just buy it then release a crappy PtW mobile game in which you have to shell out $4.99 to play as anyone who isn't the Rebel Alliance and can get 10,000 of all resources for $0.99.

tbh, that N64 game was probably the best thing to come from TPM. (Although I guess it also gave us Darth Maul as a character, which meant that he could later appear in the Clone Wars cartoon.)

Akira probably kept the rights.

Skullomania also turned up as one of the free characters in Fighter Maker, IIRC.

That being said, I understand why Tim Zahn is being protective here, considering that other authors in the Expanded Universe screwed him over by killing off Mara Jade towards the end of the EU.
