The Harrowing of Hell from what I've read.
But other than it being a small part of the Apostle's Creed as in "He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again in fulfillment of the scripture...." and the knowledge that he freed the souls in hell by doing so. That is literally it. Virtually all of that story is up to interpretation though.
So basically it will be Gibson doing it however he wants to since there's no details to base it on.

Yeah, it sure was. First time I saw it, I was all "you are a sketchy fuck." The one dude in the villains' minion crew that I actually felt bad for was that one guy who got bit by the snake, because iirc he was the most intuitive among them and knew that girl wasn't someone to be fucked around with, because I feel like in that situation, I'd be that guy. I'd be the one getting an ominous read and saying to the others "don't piss this kid off. She's not what she seems."

I'm not sure who Jesus will be beating on but I'm pretty sure Satan being in hell is a direct contradiction of scripture. Although that may not stop Mel Gibson I suppose.
