...the Nazi regime and World War 2.

Very interesting stuff. The psychology, the sociology, the concept of eugenics, the warfare, and the people who made things happen. I knew a lot about the Nazis and WW2 before, but I learnt quite a lot. I'm pretty tired now, though, I guess. That's a lot of documentary stuff to watch in just a week, I guess. I now feel a lot more knowledgeable.

What's wrong with documentaries? They teach you things you didn't know before!

A lot of topics on CE get at least one reply within 1 or 2 minutes. Besides, if it goes off Page 1 with no replies, it's possible that nobody else will see it, and it won't get any replies at all.

It's ok OP. Most CE users here only care about topics revolving around Trump, cops shooting blacks, guns, rape, homophobia and religion. If you wanna get a popular topic, you gotta say something like 'Guns should be accessible to everyone' then sit back and watch the yibber yabber among neckbeards.

I've started watching documentaries on youtube too recently. It's insane thinking how much interesting info we have at our disposal. There's been nights where I'd watch 2-3 documentaries in a row till the early hours of the morning.

Btw, I remember like 10 years ago you posted a topic about all the books you had intended on reading in that year. Still reading that much? I don't remember how many books it was but I do recall being shocked at the amount.

It was probably 7 years ago, in 2011, and my plan was to read 100+ books. I remember correctly, I read 106 books. I don't read anything like that, these days. Due to various problems with $$$, I read more like 20 - 30 books a year now (not including rereads). It's a shame, because I would've really like to have kept reading a lot of books a year, although perhaps not more than 100 again!

I actually have a lot of trouble concentrating these days, starting maybe a few months back, and the slow reading speed does damage my enjoyment. Books are great, though, not just for fun, but for information as well. Admittedly, most of my knowledge, I get from either Wikipedia or YouTube these days.

It's been a while since I've sat and watched a full WW2 documentary series, but I occasionally flick over to them if there's nothing else on. The last one I remember watching was about the Japanese Kamikaze missions.

WW2 stuff is equal parts interesting and harrowing (and sometimes touching). I love learning about it, but much of what went on doesn't bear thinking about.

Being into technology / programming, Alan Turing, Bletchley Park, Enigma, etc. are particularly interesting to me. I watched a documentary a few months back on one of the unsung heroes of Bletchley Park, Gordon Welchman: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordon_Welchman

It was the first one mentioned in the Legacy section, Bletchley Park: Code-breaking's Forgotten Genius. Looks like the iPlayer link is still in my history (but it's unavailable to watch now, unfortunately): https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b069gxz7

According to it, he conceptualised something similar to the internet (not sure how much of a hand, if anything, he had in actually creating it) and was a pioneer of traffic analysis / cryptography.

A lot of what I know about the whole, uh "Bletchley Park scene", comes from The Immitation game. That was a pretty good film.

Great source of information, that doesn't flood your feed with stuff it thinks you're interested in. I swear, I appreciate books for not being invasive with life like youtube, and articles on social media. The website Wikipedia is the one shining light on the internet. I've spent an endless amount of time just browsing stuff there.

Yeah, I'm a big Wikipedia fan as well. There were years when I probably averages 2 - 3 hours a day on there, or more. I hate it when people criticise the website, bandying about terms like "peer reviewed". The site isn't perfect (and Jimmy Wales is a bit of a shady character, eh?), but it's still amazing. The sheer amount of learning you can do there, and it's very enjoyable.

If you haven't already, check out the 1970s documentary series The World at War. Masterfully curated interviews, well worth a watch.

Yeah, I've heard of that documentary, I believe it's pretty famous. Perhaps I've already seen enough stuff, though. I dunno.

He's been doing this every topic since I can remember. I made a comic in 2007 (which is how people expressed themselves, at the time. It is horribly dated, as you will see.) about how annoying Snu is, and I even included that.

deupd_u, I do actually vaguely remember that comic. It's pretty good. I doubt very much it was 2007 or something, though, probably more like 2010.

I like the way look. An actual sunhawk. Do you remember the Sunhawk Academy for troubled teens, some kinda brat camp in the desert? That was great.

I placed it around 2007 given the topical references of Guitar Hero 3 and Call of Duty 4

Yeah, I saw those contextual references as well, but that just means it's 2007 or later. Those games stayed popular for quite a while.
