I feel that most space research is a waste of resources. why not put it into something more useful like finding a way to shoot shit out there so our planet stays cleaner?

I always felt like we are at the point to have created a giant incinerator that has a smoke filtration system that eliminates the harmful toxins and releases a safe vapor into the air, or something along those lines. The "Let's dump it on a piece of land" approach seems a bit dated and primitive.
