I fully understand how someone who's already hooked would keep coming back for more.

What I don't get is how they get addicted in the first place.

Sure, there are plenty of people who'd "try it once", contrary to the advice that that's a bad idea. But then... so what? You try it, you realise "this shit doesn't really do much", and... what exactly motivates anyone to repeatedly consume it to the point of forming an addiction?

I could understand with drugs that actually have a signficiant effect. But I tried meth once when I was offered it, and literally, I get more of a kick out of a can of energy drink than I did from the meth; between the lack of effectiveness and the high price (and the well-established addictive and life-destroying nature of it), I can't see why anyone would want to come back for seconds. My reaction was literally "this shit is stupid, where's the weed?"
