I think you'd be fine. I saw Rogue Nation without seeing MI:3 or Ghost Protocol (though I went back and watched them after the fact), and don't feel like I really missed much even with new characters having been introduced since MI:2. You'll miss some things for sure, but I think they each mostly stand alone as their own entities, good or bad. Just know that every major main character has their own backstory that the film won't feel the need to delve entirely into when it comes to their initial entrances and motivations.
