Am on the 2nd mission, and already am like why the hell is the main character talking so much? It does not help with immersion at all, if anything it has the exact opposite effect. Its lame and kind of annoying.

Why do some games do that? The first dishonored game didnt. Prey didnt. And they were great.

And it sucks because so far the game is really fun. And if games do want to do this constant narration, they could at least let you turn it off. My only option would be to mute character voices but that effects everyone else too.

Oh well, I hope this fad of main characters who never shut up ends soon >_>

I mean maybe they need a way to justify paying the voice actor a lot or something... but I dont know why developers think its a good idea for the main character to just constantly be spouting exposition at every little detail you come across.

I mean it doesnt quite ruin the game, would just vastly prefer without. Especially a game about a stealth assassin who should be trying to be quiet lol.

I agree with you, although it's not something that bothered me too much. I actually do think Corvo's voice actor is pretty good too, but I still preferred when he was silent. I think giving the protagonist a voice isn't the problem by itself. It's just the lines that they're given. They're lines that are meant solely to convey information to the player. Information that is already pretty obvious.

Yeah the story is really Emily's, despite the fact you can pick either character. It just makes more sense if it's her, which is why she canonically is the protagonist of the game.

Im only like an hour in, and I did like the start of the first game a lot more. We shall see. The 2nd game is obviously way prettier tho at least.

The gameplay is superior in pretty much every way. And that's the most important thing to me.

Admittedly, I gave up after 3 hours. It just didn't hook me like the first one did right away. I'll give it another whirl someday.

D2 has a lot of fun levels and stuff, but it lacks the chill between-mission atmosphere of the first game. It's a small difference, but you'll definitely miss it while traipsing through the dingiest parts of the city.

I get it, the beginning of the first game draws you in more. Dishonored 2 does a lot to improve the gameplay though. Particularly it gives you so many more options when playing non-lethally. My preferred playstyle in every game in the series is to be loud and lethal. I did a non-lethal run in the first game and it was rather dull. But Dishonored 2 makes them so much more fun, even if I still prefer to go around killing everything.

Thats cool so far Ive been doing mostly non lethal but while I was choke holding a dude another enemy came up and killed him and it counted as a kill for me lol. So 1 kill so far.

Im liking the new ways to initiate a choke tho

Yeah it's fun. My first playthrough I think I actually knocked out more people than killed even though I was still running into the middle of a group of guards. So many more options to knock someone out.

Yeah, the Dreadful Wale is the hub this time. It functions the same as the pub in D1, but since it's a dingy hole like most of Karnaka, it's never really a place of comfort and relaxation with your cohorts. I mean, it makes sense from a plot perspective, but it just reinforces the dreariness of the proceedings.

i haven't played 2 yet, but one of my only gripes about the first one is that the protagonist was silent for apparently no reason. it just seems lazy when devs do a silent protagonist but give absolutely no reason why he doesn't speak, and then don't even have a robust conversation/dialogue system where you the player can be part of giving the protagonist at least a text "voice".

so i was glad when i first heard that Corvo was going to be voiced in 2. however, if he's just constantly chattering on and never shuts up, that's an altogether different problem. i'll have to get around to playing it one of these days, and decide for myself i guess.

Yes it definitely is a balancing act.

Definitely decide for yourself because I didn't think it was excessive at all

Im just personally not a fan of that current trend in games. An example of this that I thought was done well was with Kratos and his son in god of war
