Current Events > A local theater is showing Balto tomorrow and I have the day off.

I didn't ask for it off. I didn't call in sick. I just wasn't scheduled for tomorrow. So tomorrow, I'm going to sit in the back of a theater and watch an animated 90s movie because I've got the hots for the female lead: a red furred canine with a voice as smooth as silk.



I don't care that she's a dog. I don't care that she has a beard. She's brave and beautiful and I could get lost in her eyes all day.

I miss Siskel and Ebert. Those two would argue over anything. The discussion actually gets a little heated around the two minute mark.

I just got back. It was amazing. Home video doesn't do the film justice. Even the DVD is cropped like it was a VHS tape. Much like Lawrence of Arabia, Balto was framed to give the audience an appreciation for the vastness of the barren environment the heroes are traveling through. The artwork, the use of color, is incredible.

And Jenna makes my heart melt. A couple of people in the audience made a couple of comments over the more sensual moments; like when Jenna warms Balto up after his dip in the frozen pond. Oh, baby. She can warm me up anytime. :3

If they ever show it again, I'd gladly see it again. Sorry to be weird, but... not sorry. Jenna is amazing.

I feel like Alpha & Omega had the chance to throw in that hot, steamy dog sex scene Balto passed on but they wimped out too...

If it's any consolation, I enjoyed the film on its own merits. (The third act is a little weak though.) Even without being a weird boy, I still liked the characters, the qualifying race, and the fight with the bear. Seriously, that's the biggest, nastiest bear in all of fiction and I challenge anyone to find a more imposing bear. :v

Oh, I bet that was fun. :)

The Iditarod was inspired by Balto and Togo's trek to deliver antitoxins during a diphtheria outbreak. The movie completely left out Togo, replacing him instead with the villainous Steel, but it stands to reason that a movie about talking dogs would take at least some liberties with the source material.

I particularly like the part at the end where the townspeople are okay with two polar bears standing in the middle of the crowd. Just another day in Alaska, I suppose. :v
