Current Events > Tales of Symphonia: early game grinding?

I've just started the game (crummy PS3 port) and I'm wondering how viable grinding is gonna be in this game. It's one of those big, mega-hyped RPGs from the time, but I don't like the combat much - so I've currently got it set on auto-pilot.

As soon as grinding becomes a viable option, I'm thinking of beefing up my characters. When would you say grinding in Tales of Symphonia becomes a viable option?

Still, the battle system and the characters (skits) are pretty much the only reasons people play a Tales of games in the first place. Because the stories more often than not leave much to be desired and well, it's the same thing in almost every game of the series >_>;

Symph had a cool story.

The combat hasnt ages well though. Especially if you have played Vesperia.

When you are prompted to cross the ocean, don't and go north across the bridge instead. Do whatever at that point and you will be plenty leveled.

This game really isn't worth playing.

It does have kind of an interesting world but the story goes from mediocre to garbage, it's full of way too many of those in-dungeon puzzles that nobody asked for, and the pacing will test your patience super hard.

But in fairness, it does have a few cool characters.

Symphonia was the first RPG I played where I actually read/heard the story. As a first RPG, it's really good. But if you've been around the block, it's a tropey, dopey, cliched mess of anime-isms and melodrama

But I still love it tbh

I got this recently on sale and yeah, combat is kinda rigid compared to vesperia and I really miss voice acted skits.

I'm so hyped for the Vesperia remaster. People kept saying how great it was on the Xbox back then and I only ever (still) bought Nintendo or Sony consoles.

Instead of grinding just turn down the difficulty, you can just mash attack and you'll never die on easy

Enough grinding to keep up while keeping the wooden sword equipped. You get a pretty decent title for keeping it on from the beginning of the game to a specific point.

There are a lot of missable titles. You should find a FAQ with them. IIRC there are also NG+ only titles as well, but don't quote me on it.

If you can defeat the sword dancer the first time talking to him you will be well over leveled.

The remaster is going to be so much better since it's pretty much the PS3 version localized. And the PS3 version adds a fair lot of things that the original Xbox version didn't have at all.

The amount of extra content will definitely leave you satisfied :P
