To my understanding, as the synthetic compounds have been banned, new ones have been developed and rushed to market, meaning each successive generation has been more unpredictable with respect to its effects on the brain.

I was a somewhat heavy user of those types of products (sometimes, but not always, specifically the K2 brand).

Towards the end of their legality here, they made manufacturers explicitly state on the packaging what the active ingredient was. That was a godsend to me; because I had found some produced nasty side effects and others didn't, and also that some were great while others were useless - making them state the active ingredients helped me stick only to the ones that were both absent of bad effects and actually worked. (CL-2201 was my go-to, with AB-FUBINACA as a backup if no CL-2201 products were available.)

I had heard of people who totally fucked up their lives in it. But upon paying closer attention, there were two things I noticed - firstly, they were always using a PB-22, PB-22F or SGT-xx product; and secondly, they were usually smoking multiple packets a day (whereas for me, the smallest size packages were still a 3-4 day supply).

Almost all the users I knew personally had no problems either while under the influence or from withdrawals when the ban came; and indeed, they mostly had habits and product selections similar to mine. The one person I know who had a hell of a time coming off them, was also the one person I knew personally who fit the above stereotype of problem users - PB-22 / PB-22F / SGT-xx products, insanely heavy use, etc. Aside from him, my own withdrawal was the worst I noticed among people I know personally, and it was still less severe than how I'd be if I went a day without caffiene.

It's a bit of a moot point here now though, as all synthetics have been illegal since mid 2014; the black market ones are about as trustworthy as the average politician; and we're very likely going to be legalizing the real stuff by 2020 (and it's already fairly tolerated; they'll only bother to bust you over it if you're found to be in posession while committing another crime, or if you're supplying to under-18s, or if you're a large scale dealer).

The ones in the "old days" typically had a chemical known to be on a relatively safe side, but when it got banned, the chemist's started changing a single molecule at a time, repeating over and over until its become so many other different chemicals, some are particularly addictive and harmful on your brain.

I only did that shit a few times during my addiction phase. Always felt like a cheap imitation of weed with bad side-effects. Never looked back on it, and now that weed is legal, I'd be surprised if I met anyone IRL who still does that shit.

That shit had me baaaaad and I was only a one bag a day smoker. I forced myself to quit right before the ban came.

You know how it was so cheap and bountiful that if you dropped a little while packing the bowl you didn't give a fuck? Well about the time the addiction had me digging thru my carpet with tweezers I said "fuck this I'm done"

The ban came like a week later

The one time I did that since it's all been changed so much, it was by accident, and I remember slumping over talking real slow like I was about to have a heroin overdose or something. Was like, yeah no this shit is no joke anymore.
