Current Events > I saw Hostel 1 for the first time last night. Just what the fuck. *spoilers*

The first half is essentially almost constant sex and nudity (I was amazed how much for an American movie), and the second half is mostly torture, violence and blood.

I think I've heard this film mentioned before, and it's been implied it was pretty nasty, but I had no idea. I must admit, though, the first half was great wish fulfillment / fantasy. A few Western guys go to continental Europe, and they meet a bunch of girls who are both beautiful and really, really, easy.

2 was pretty boring imo but almost worth it for two torture porn scenes which are insanely hard to forget xd

It's kind of a brilliant movie actually. It shows the navet of Western hedonism when faced with the horrors of a foreign country's seedy underbelly.

Hostel 2 is one of the few sequels that is on par, if not better than the original. And it's maybe the only time that a sex-reversed cast makes sense.

Slovakia was furious about the portrayal of the country. The film made it look backwards, poor, run by criminal gangs, and with torture groups in existence.

I've never been to that country, but I can't imagine it's anything much like that (apart from the buildings and architecture).

Also, don't bother with Hostel 3. I haven't seen it, but it was straight to video and I don't think Eli Roth had anything to do with the title.

It's not bad, to be honest. It's just more of a thriller than the Eli Roth movies.
