Seems like if it's going to work I need to sign up for the premium stuff, because they clearly wanted me to have some success the first day then get the premium stuff. Is it better than other dating platforms? Particularly for a similar price.

Hell no. Try your luck on OKCupid. Gives you a better idea of who you're talking to in regards to their preferences. You can view questions they answer based on how much they care about them and get matched to a percentage.

If you ever want to seriously get into online dating and make the absolute most of it, seems like Match.com is the ticket. Besides, people who are paying for a subscription to something like that are bound to be serious and actually looking to get something out of it. Much less likely to encounter bullshit.

You can always start a free trial, I guess. I've never tried it myself, but did some research when I was trying to feel out free stuff and Match was the most suggested for premium. I stand by OKCupid being the best free dating option. Plenty of Fish is shit, Bumble is just as boring as Tinder, because girls genuinely aren't very interesting there. They open up with the exact thing they tell you not to and then ghost asap.

Try making the best profile possible before even considering paying for it.

Tinder will boost your profile for the first day or two when you make it. This basically puts you in the mindset that you should be getting a bunch of matches each day and all you need for that boost again is to pay a little bit.

I feel like that's the problem, they try to get you hooked on the instant gratification aspect.

The downside is that if your profile sucks/you use unflattering pictures and use a boost and swipe a ton during that boost, the way their algorithm works will actually work against you rather than help.

Try setting your profile so only girls you've liked can see you. That worked better for me than a month of premium

How do I do this? The closest thing I see is a setting that "takes me out of the card stack" (Show up on Tinder)

Basically happens with Tinder and Bumble. You get matches (as a man) in waves more so than consistently. There are weeks where I don't get a single match and then days where I get more than 3 all at once. It's strange.

My gf on the other hand could swipe right for days and still have a queue.

if you get plus, don't waste money on boosts. the boosts didn't help enough to be work the 2 dollars or so they cost.

Agreed boosts are a complete waste of money. Not worth it at all. Super likes are also shit.

OkCupid used to be its own thing, but after recent changes it's functionally just Tinder with a virtue signaling (can't believe I'm using that phrase unironically) bent.
PlentyOfFish is closer to what OKC used to be but it also deletes your older messages and barely makes an attempt to crack down on escorting in addition to the daily wave of bots you see on every other dating app.

PoF I logged into a while back and got a message/like from every bot and ugly chick within 200 miles instantly. If OkCupid is better these days I'll use it. I remember it used to be okay. I met some girls on there that I chatted with but never got into anything serious due to being in a small town.
