I remember when everyone started making fun of jean shorts, and I never understood why, but then cargo shorts became the thing you're supposed to wear. And I like them a lot, I make great use of the pockets. Like I can sneak in a water bottle to any place that doesn't allow outside beverages, and that's a really nice benefit!

But now I'm told they're totally out of style, uncool, and you're supposed to wear these tight khaki shorts that dont have any side pockets now.

Why tho

I still wear cargo shorts, I buy them from Macy's. I still have a bunch of denim shorts too; I just prefer the storage space in cargo shorts. I don't give a rip about what's in style, I wear whatever I feel like.

The extra pockets are excessive. Fashion tends to make a statement about the wearer. Regular shorts fit better, look more sophisticated, and show off your physique better. They are usually worn with a nicer shirt that says "I have my shit together".

Cargo shorts are now associated with guys who still have some maturing to do. Keep in mind that if you are wearing them for functions like hiking or camping, then it makes sense to wear cargo shorts.

I wore them to Six Flags the other day and those side pockets held my water bottle, phone, keys, and glasses while on rides. While other schmucks have to go across and put their stuff in the bins, I can just sit down an enjoy the ride. That's a good thing.

It was never conventionally fashionable. You'd never wear them for a night out or something. Skater culture from the nineties (along some of the associated music scenes) and photos of celebrities hanging out on the water in baggy clothes and boat hats popularized it a bit, but you'd never see those celebs wearing them in less casual contexts. Anyhow, they've lingered because of your parent's Lands End catalog, anime cosplay, and because they are generally comfortable and unchallenging.

Im not saying you are wrong for wearing what you want. I wear garbage clothes all the time to run errands, just keep in mind that what you wear presents an image about you, even if it isn't a good reflection of who you really are.

Nope, the pockets are big enough and the pants are loose enough that it completely blends in. I even asked people I was with and they said they couldn't tell anything was in there.

Idk but I love my cargo shorts. Four pockets for three (sometimes gum) items.

Bottom left = wallet
Top left = keys
Bottom right = phone
Top right = free, sometimes gum if i have a pack

Those Chino shorts on many guys would just look plain weird. On a smaller guy or a girl, sure. But personally I'd much prefer a "traditional" shorts on your typical guy.

If the 2-4 pockets that exist in normal chino shorts aren't enough, then you should probably be carrying a bag of some sort.

For most men, it's wallet, cell phone, keys. Those fit into men's pockets pretty well.

I mean, I do carry my bag with me myself as I just go out with too much stuff in general, but most guys I know would just bitch about the lack of space in pockets like we do with our clothes usually.

One reason I often wear guys clothing is the extra baggy pocket space as the tighter clothes can't squeeze much in and anything you do put in bulges out.

And Oh god, not a fanny pack. plz no.
