I've heard of some churches' Sunday School sessions being held at the same time as the regular sermon, with it being intended specifically for children.

But the one at my church was different--and still is, even though I haven't gone to church in over five years. My church's Sunday School is completely separate from the main sermon, taking place in the morning before regular service, and having several classes for both children AND adults. Even more odd, there's also a separate "children's church" for kids during the main sermon. Church service probably wouldn't end until 1pm or a bit later, all-in-all.

I did Hebrew school twice a week i think tues and thursdays when I was in elementary school. it was pretty boring, didn't even study the actual stories of the torah or anything. it was weird.

I did eventually get placed into kind of alternative seminar type hebrew school where we talked about judaism and jewish culture and that was really cool.

I went to a catholic school until third grade. Our Sunday school was pretty much bible stories that even non-believers know. Nothing scary or about crucifixion. Keep in mind, I only went when I was really young.

Bible camp and things like that were basically daycare with a few songs and activities.

Sunday School at ours was the kids going to the pastor, and him explaining a lesson to the kids about racism, loving people who don't "deserve" it, being kind, and when honesty matters more than protecting your friends

It was during the main service. They focused a lot of attention on the history of the Israel according to the Old Testiment for some reason. There was some Jesus stuff too, though.
