Its like an itch you cant scratch.

As an adult im able to buy or obtain any game I ever want at all times, so the thousands of options are just overwhelming.

As a kid I committed to and beat each game because I never knew when I was gonna get another one.

Then you pick one and it's not actually as engaging as you thought it would be. It isn't bad, but you just don't click into it like some games. Then you drop it, and now it's added to the pile of half finished games you'll probably never get back to.

Exactly this.

The last game that grabbed me this way was Super Metroid, which I played for the first time on my SNES Classic earlier this year. My God I could not put it down and immediately played through Fusion and Zero Mission right after because I needed more. But by the time I started the Prime games, the kick was over so I lost interest a little bit into the first one.

You should stop buying games, and maybe even playing them.

or just play Bloodborne.

As of now, Fallout 3 is that game that keeps swirling around in my head whispering Play meeeeee PLAY MEEEEEE because it fits that description, but I just cant push myself to officially start it.

Man I know how you feel so bad.

There are like four games I could play right now. And I want to play a game. But I can't decide between them.

The only game I can play for eternity and never get tired of is Sonic Mania. Christ ive beaten it so many times over the year.

When Plus comes out in a few days ill at least have my go-to option back, ive been avoiding playing the standard version since Plus was announced so I can appreciate the complete version.

I think its because its accessible enough that I can turn it on, beat a level and turn it off. And the checkpoints are generous enough that if I die I dont lose motivation due to the feeling of wasting time playing through sections I already passed. And each new level feels fresh because I havent played that level since the last time I beat the game, and with 5 characters each experience playing that level feels fresh since I havent played that level with that character since the last time I beat the game with that character, and now with Encore mode being remixed versions of each level, its already consistent feeling of freshness has doubled.

Depends on your backlog. You've listed fairly long games where you can't really pick back up without feeling lost or investing a lot of time to make progress.

Think about short games you haven't played yet but own.

This is the lane I usually stay in, probably why my Sega Genesis is my save in a fire console.
