I've played through MGS and MGS3 previously. I know almost nothing about this game, but it's apparently postmodernism incarnate. Playing the regular version because no store within an hour of my house has a copy of Substance. On top of that, I've bought 2 copies of the game that don't even goddamn work. This game does not want to be played by me.

Gameplay wise it's my favorite in the series behind MGSV. The actual story is pretty good, but Kojima's masturbatory musings on existence, the future of humanity and technology are dumb as fuck.

Playing on Normal because I don't know this game at all but I'm not a baby. Going with MGS1-style radar.

Gotta say, this looks really damn nice for a PS2 game.

Really nice touch with the water puddle near the door. The effect looks great.

The AP sensor really adds to the tension, love it. The posters on the inside of the lockers are pretty funny.

And I've already missed a headshot because of this stupid shooting method. When I hit the fire button, I want to fire.

Why, exactly, did they bother to stuff that body in a locker? Never mind, I just realized it's a tutorial that kinda fits thematically. Carry on.

The smooth switch from corner to corner is very nice.

God dammit, Kojima, you trolled me. That's a dick move. I was completely undetected up until I shot the picture.

Gotta say, though, this gameplay is fantastic. I feel totally in control. Aside of getting trolled, I feel that everything has gone exactly as I want it to. Of course, the game could be deliberately designed that way, but I still feel really damn good about it. Accomplishment either way.

Ooh goody, new characters.

Holy shit, an actual boss battle? Half an hour into the game? Not only that, but one that I was able to beat on my first try? Big fan of this game already.

I don't think Substance is worth the extra hassle though. You get a lot of extra content 'n' stuff but imo, the game's so old now you're better off just putting the hours into V, if you really wanna go nuts. V has the best gameplay of all the games.

Mgs 2 is an amazing 10/10 game. MGS4 ruined everything that was good with the series and is trash that should be avoided at all costs if you treasure the story of the first 3 games

Depending on if you have a 360 or PC library, there are a lot more games for PS3 you could get in the future.

The Uncharted series, Red Dead Redemption, Last of Us, Arkham games, inFamous, BioShock series, Ass Creed series. Plus there are a lot of PS2 remastered collections like Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, but avoid the Shadow of the Colossus remake and Silent Hill collection since those are ruined masterpieces.

MGS4 was the reason I got a PS3 in the first place.
