Guess this makes it official. I'm kinda confused about my work situation now though, they told me as long as I didn't make like 1000 a month I was fine but now it sounds like I can only work at places they approve through some ticket program or something?

I hate how confusing this stuff is.

I have end stage kidney disease.

Which sounds a lot worse than it is, or at least for me. I'm some kind of weirdo that hasn't shown hardly any symptoms but I still need to be on dialysis 3 times a week for 5 hours.

Don't work at all. Disability is functionally a declaration that you cannot work. The $1000 thing is there so if someone pays you $20 to call them if there's a fire in the house you aren't considered working.

See, that's what I thought, but then everyone at my dialysis center and at the social security office made a big deal about how I should *keep* working which confused the fuck out of me.

Anyway hope you can get a transplant. That's one of the most inconvenient conditions to live with.

Yeah, I need to get on more lists. Right now I'm only on one and I'm on a hold because my BMI is over the limit but it's because I used to be a body builder :/

I'm kind of holding out hope those rumors of artificial kidneys coming out in the next 5 years hold up.

Yes

The only reason I can even work my current job is because it's just driving a car. Anything else would probably exhaust me too much.

All "working while disabled" programs are designed to wean you off disability as you find a job that you can do unencumbered.

For example if you're in a wheelchair but you can find a place willing to let you work remotely they will keep paying your disability for about 9 months to make sure you can handle it and then it stops.

Being in a wheelchair and working is reasonably manageable, though. Working while end stage kidney Failure is a hassle and stress you don't need.

I mean...yeah? But it wouldn't do anything.

In fact, they usually leave your old kidneys inside you if you get a transplant. They put the new one kind of like in your inner thigh area I think. It's been a while since I read the pamphlets.

Unless it has a tumor you're probably better off leaving it in. It's an unnecessary surgery that you can do at the same time you get a new one.

So are there other types of jobs you can do to support yourself and not be on disability?

You do know many many people meet criteria and qualifications for disability but never use it right?

I dont know anything about Indiana state laws that might change the situation. But you can still work under certain conditions, basically you go through a year long trial period where you "test" your ability to work while still receiving benefits. Also if your disability comes with costs/bills, that price is taken into consideration when calculating your 1k per month limit. So if it costs you $800 in bills and you make $1700 per month, then you are only at $900 out of the $1000 limit.

There are a lot of things that you can do, but its a hassle and it varies by state i believe.

ESRD and Blindness are two automatic free tickets into disability. Literally anything else had a pretty good chance of getting denied and while you can appeal and eventually win most people don't know how and can't afford a lawyer to help.

After ESRD and Blindness, the next two easiest to claim disabilities are Schizophrenia and Paralysis.

While you can claim disability for things like Social Anxiety Disorder or COPD, it's much harder. You typically have a hard time even claiming something like cancer unless the treatments you're going through put you out hard.

Not really, most other jobs would either exhaust me, or any job that would be a desk job and actually pay enough to support me I won't get hired because I need to be out 3-4 days a week for dialysis.

You know, 10 years ago I would have thought this. Now I just really hate that I can't get a real job and I'm probably gonna have to move back in with my mom and dad.

I'm just lucky I don't actually feel sick or anything and so far I just get tired easily. I'm sure that's not going to last long though.

I get about 800 dollars a month after they they take out for Medicare.

I get Part A and B, I need to sign up for D. I also need to get medicaid because the state insurance I was on dropped me when I got Medicare but I need two insurances for transplant.

Don't apply directly for Medicaid. Apply for SSSI (social security supplementary income)

It's a little extra money a month but it comes with automatic Medicaid.

I applied for it when I first applied for disability 5 months ago, and they said I made too much on disability to qualify for it.

Should I try again anyways?

They factor in things that are not money and convert them to monetary value.

For example, if you told them your parents pay all your rent and utilities they consider that to be worth some equivalent income of something obscene and deny you.

I'd try again and make it sound like you have as many bills and debt as possible.
