When I was a kid it was everywhere in dine-in restaurants.

Parsley was originally put on plates to act as a breath freshener, ie the diner would eat it after eating food and their breath wouldn't smell so bad. I guess with the advent of more sophisticated citizenry, it's not needed any more.

I'm glad, parsley sucks.

Now if only places would also stop doing crap like putting a pile of lettuce with a slice of orange on top on the plate. :P

I would argue that a lessened citizenry led to this but whatever.

Chopped parsley is good in some dishes, but a slrig of it as a garnish is pointless unless you're trying to impress a judge on Food Network

I'm going to agree with Zang. That shit wasn't impressive in the 80's.

Now you need to do a parsley infused whipped cream chilled with liquid nitrogen.

No Judge on the network is going to be impressed by pointless garnish.

There are definitely judges who will put down a dish if it has stuff on the plate that isn't intended to be eaten, yes. But contestants will still almost universally put unnecessary (though edible and pretty) garnishes on plates.
