Basically, the organizers got a venue that's criminally small for the amount of interest that was expressed in going.

And then certain groups of people (people subbed to FFXIV, for instance) got special "queue codes" that would let them wait in a digital queue to purchase tickets.

But when the ticket sales opened up... everyone could buy them, and many people without the special codes were able to buy up the tickets long before many of the people with the special codes were. The tickets were sold out in 20 minutes.

Additionally, there are rumors going around that people were using bots to circumvent the system and buy additional tickets (further screwing people).

People are complaining that they planned their whole year around this. Some people were planning on going with loved ones, family and friends, but were unable to get enough tickets, rendering the tickets *very* bittersweet. Additionally according to the ticket sales service, the tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable.

What a shitshow.

Oh and their tweet announcing it's sold out has party poppers and shit rofl. What a slap in the face.

It blows me away that these conventions just never rent a big enough place to house the level of interest. I used to go to Blizzcon, and the lineups were just... comical. The worst I saw was the entire Anaheim Convention Center lobby filled, lineup going out the door, looping multiple times to fill the entire plaza, and the line ended near my hotel just down the road. Easily several thousand in line.

Getting tickets was about a 5 second window refreshing on the site. Accidentally refresh as you got your place in line? Better luck next year.

tbf I'd be pissed too if I thought I was going to have a chance to buy tickets because they sent me a special code but they opened sales to the general public before opening it up to code holders >_>.

Just because people say they wanna go doesnt mean theyll come actually go - its a calculated risk I understand

But forreal that digital queue shit is
Just garbage - its why if I go to NYcc Or something I just get it off stubhub cuz I dont wanna deal with all that

Sometimes, it just isn't practical or possible to get a room large enough for stuff.

Ohhh thought this was the first year this happened or soemthign

So I don't know the full history, but it sounds like they used this venue in the past, but it was too small so they moved up to the Paris resort. And now they're back here (according to another user they may have been banned from Paris?)
