I've heard a lot of people praise it but those people are also the same ones who tend to praise things like Firefly, Japanese Hentai and A Bug's Life so I'm a little skeptical.

Im a big fan of RPGs and Stealth Games which apparently it is, but I also don't know, is this the first one or is it like the 4th? Because I kinda like starting a franchise off from the start.

I mean feel bad for people who started Fallout on Fallout 3. They don't know what they missed even tho 3 is more popular and yeah it waaaaaaaaaay better than Vew Vegas and 4. But even so 1 and 2 are still worth playing, they're way better than New Vegas too.

Anyone on CE played it?

Is it possible to do a pussy no kills stealth run? Because to me a stealth game where you have to kill people like is like a fighting game where you have to be a pacifist, it seems counter-productive.

Like deus ex.

You can kill people, but nearly always ways to avoid it with vampire powers, smooth talking or plain stealth and hack.

A pretty good character cast as well and a number of different races/clans to play as.

Well. It's your vampire clan. Each gives entirely different play style and powers I recall.

I believe it is the second one they did, but don't think has any relation to the first.

Yeah, if you play as a vampire from the clan where every single vampire is a fucking insane person, your character has special insane person dialogue. Similar to how you got special dumb guy dialogue in the old Fallouts for not having points in the intelligence stat.

One of the best parts of old RPGs is that they made things like that matter. Modern RPGs are all homogenized nonsense.

"Race" as in black or white doesn't matter at all. "Race as in Clan Bruja or Clan Nosferatu is literally the most important choice in the game

Well you say that but that's mainly rose tinted glasses.

Most choices like that in old RPGs effect like a handful of dialogues and maybe a side quest but nothing else.

i mean how different was Fallout 1 with low Intelligence really? It's not like it was a game changer, it just was a neat attention to detail

Neverwinter Nights did the same thing and I loved it there but I wouldn't say Neverwinter Nights is better than Dragon Age because in Dragon Age you can't sound like a fool.

Bloodlines takes place in a larger RPG setting called World of Darkness (like how Neverwinter Nights is a game that takes place in the Dungeons & Dragons setting)

There are other games in the World of Darkness setting (like Redemption, never played that one myself) but Bloodlines is written as a standalone experience (the characters in the game go to length to explain the relevant parts to you)

The atmosphere is what really sells its as one of the best rpgs imo. Its just so fun going around the city meeting new wacky npcs and doing their questlines. None of the quests are generic and theres always mutiple ways to complete it.

I played a World of Darkness session with my ex once. They helped me get my character set up since I had no idea how the rules worked, but it was really fun once we got into it. I think I ran into more werewolves than vampires though

dont pick nosferatu or malkavian race on your first playthrough. and get the unofficial patch beacuse the game was launched as a buggy mess borderline unplayable from what I hear. the only missable thing I think thats really worth it is some dialogue with a lady you meet at the beach, just give her some money and she'll tell you something important.

Malkavian are great on a second run through at least, they get lots of insightful dialogue with their "crazy talk" akin to being seers.

And some nice mods for it, yeah. I recall was one big overhaul mod which was pretty cool.

thats the most recent update to the patch

it was an amazing game for it's time. probably still a good game even today. but it had lots of horrible bugs. there is a patch that fixes them though. I played without it though cause I got the game and beat it before the community put out that patch. it was an ordeal but I got through it. I remember some parts "lagged" with horrible framerate like you were playing an mmo on a crappy modem

avoid malkavian and nosferatu your first time. those are the most interesting clans but for reasons that make the game really hard. malkavians are insane and you might not even understand the story fully cause it changes the dialogue

nosferatu are ugly and look like monsters to the point that if a human sees you, it breaks the vampire law, which is something that you have to worry about. also I think cops will attack you on sight. so you have to sneak around. I mean if you want stealth gameplay I guess you could try it. but it's usually not recommenced for a first playthrough.

the sucky thing is that it was meant to be a trilogy supposedly, but the developer went bankrupt right after the game came out. that's why there was no official patch to fix the game. when you play, there are hints to the future and plans for sequels. but we never got it. i'm still bummed all these years later about that.

My first run was a Malkavian. I had no idea what was going on for most of the game. Which I guess makes sense for a Malkavian. Fun times.

yea but World of Darkness is a massive universe, it deserves more than just one good game. when I was in highschool I used to be really into that rpg. I knew some people who played it and I rarely got a chance myself but I always was obsessed with the lore of the world setting. so I was really excited when bloodlines came out. there is so much they could have done in sequels. or even done the other branches of the world of darkness. like werewolf the apocalypse, or mage the ascension

there was a World of Darkness MMO in production but it got canceled. it was a pretty sad moment. World of Darkness has lot of bad luck when it comes to video games.

I went with Toreador since they seemed the least douchey of the races.

And female because they tend to be better voice actors than male in these games.

...and the character never talks.

Really disappointed you can't edit your apperance, my character looks like a crackwhore.

For the combat: Use Blood Buff. Also, try using directional inputs when you attack to find the combo strikes.

Once you get used to using Blood Buff and find a solid 3-hit combo you'll have a much easier time with the combat.

That being said, yeah the game is better done with stealth and subterfuge. You normally get more experience points that way too, so that kind of success snowballs and gives you a stronger character in the end.

Christ these controls are awful.

Playing on a laptop and arrow keys to move with the touchpad controlling camera, space to jump, click to punch and E to interact is a nightmare.

Their clan weakness causes them to sometimes become enraptured with something that they find beautiful. If they can't make a willpower save, they may end up staring at a piece of art on the wall for several hours. They have an inborn desire to seek out perfection that they are unable to ever fully attain.

Yeah, not having at least a mouse can hurt with certain games.

Toreador are probably the easiest to pick up and play. They don't have any specific drawbacks, and while they lack Dominate/Dementate in conversations they have a bit more combat prowess. By the late game when you get access to military weaponry they make really good sharpshooters. It's like being an undead John Wick.
