Even though England didn't win the world cup, football came home. Even all the way from Australia, I can see that it has united England, and the team played in a way that you could be proud of. Southgate deserves all the plaudits he will receive.

No disrespect to Croatia and I like the thought of a new world cup champion AND I think they were better than England
...but does anyone else feel this is underwhelming? France is legit, they look like a world champion. They beat Argentina in probably the game of the tournament, they comfortably destroyed Uruguay who had sent Ronaldo home and then they beat belgium, the same team that beat Brazil. Croatia won 2 penalties then beat an england team that was OK, better than their last few teams but not amazing. I just feel this doesn't have the same ring to it as "Germany vs argentina" or "spain vs Netherlands" or "France vs Italy" ... Copied to Clipboard!

I love that a team not on the "elite" level is in the World Cup final. Croatia have played 3 straight extra time games - an additional 90 minutes more than France who haven't played any. Croatia have literally played a full game more than France and looked exhausted at the end of the last two games.

Nah, neither of them will win it this year.
Even though they were the best two in the world, they weren't at their usual level of dominance. Like, if any other player had the season they had, they'd be a shoe-in. It's like how LeBron James hasn't won MVP in a few years, especially this year even though his stats were better than Harden's. Messi and Ronaldo now need to work harder to be outstanding. England are usually a team of unlikable players who underachieve. This time they were a team of limited yet fairly likable players who overachieved. People keep talking about the easy draw but it seems obvious there is a lack of top level international teams with quality throughout right now. There is France, Brazil, Germany, Spain and Belgium and that's pretty much it. Obviously Germany and Spain got it tactically completely wrong and that left it open to the rest of the teams, including Croatia and England. That said, having Poland and Russia as top seeds didnt help the draw either.
