So my sister bought the trilogy for our Switch, and for the life of me, I CANNOT grasp the physics of this game. There seems to be SO little margin for error in the platforming that you die ALL the time because you didnt push the control stick soon enough by just a millisecond.

Even the bonus stage I just won after 5 minutes gave me trouble in the part where I had to bounce on 2 consecutive boxes.

Is the shitty physics the reason why nobody talked about this series until the rerelease came out?

You could've just deleted the topic and fixed the typo

I haven't played the remastered trilogy, but I never remember having an issue with the first one.

I'm probably gonna pick up soon though

Crash 1 felt like a lot of the non-optional jumps even in the early stages required fairly precise timing compared to the other two at least.

Crash 1 has always been the most difficult, but they messed up the game for the remake by giving Crash (the character) physics from the third game but not adjusting the levels in the first game to match. The second and third games get other jump abilities to make this a non-issue.

There's also the newly-rounded edges. Before, you either made a jump or you didn't. Like Mario, you could be 80% off the ledge but you're still safe as long as your toe is touching. Now, if you get to close to any ledge or platform, Crash has a tendency to slide off. It's more realistic but makes for a frustrating platforming experience.

Yeah it's not one of the easiest games but don't forget it's from the PS1 gen.

On the PS1 Crash had a square hitbox, in the remake they gave him a pill box to make it consistent with crash 3.

Crash 1 also required more precision than the other 2. If you're not feeling it move on to crash 2 it hits a good balance between challenging and fun.

Didn't they change the hitbox recently? Thought I read that. No sense making a game more difficult than it needs to be.

I finished it so it's not that bad. Previous gen games were harder for various reasons. I grew up with the NES. Things have gotten more refined since then and it's hard for people to go backwards. You can see drastic differences just by playing sequels. Megaman 1 and 2. Ratchet 1 and 2. A few tweaks go a long way.

Spyro is better, but Crash is still great.

Crash 1 really has aged the worst in general.

It's pretty challenging. If my hair were longer, it'd be torn out from trying to beat The High Road.

It's you.

I platinum relic'd all three games on PS4 (finishing the third game 2 days ago, and after a hiatus of several months due to Road Hog being the biggest pain in the ass to get a platinum on), with the exception of Stormy Ascent (which I will do tomorrow maybe).

You're just bad.

Crash feels a bit heavier in the remake. This is what really through me off.

I feel that some individual stages are much harder than they were in the PS1 version, like The High Road...
The game is overall a bit easier though, mostly because of the new save system.

Ohohoho the original C1 was worse, trust me. Crash felt heavy as a tank and was really unresponsive, taking to long to move and not stopping when you needed. And you couldn't even save when you wanted.

The remake is great tho, and the physics are really good, it's just that the first game is hard as heck. If you want a nice learning curve, start with the third and make your way downwards until the first.

Few people notice that this actually makes the game easier because you can jump while slipping out, making it extremely forgiving for when you jump too late, but killing you if your landing is sloppy (which will never happen if you exploit the former).
