I don't think Americans do.

I'm fairly certain that the publisher has taken it out of rotation, though, since they realize that the only people who want it are people you don't want as your user base. That, right there, looks like an ad.

Reportedly, the UK publisher has pulled the book from their catalog and they will also remove it from the cover of newly printed books...

Tintin in the Congo was considered both racist and cruel to animals. The Congolese are basically depicted as savage monkeys, and also Tintin does some fucked up shit like drilling a hole into a rhino and then sticking dynamite into him and blowing him up for fun.

As child I had a complete set collection of the books, and was disappointed that this (and I think Tintin in the Land of the Soviets) never had an episode of the cartoon series when every other one did.

I mean whoever is in charge of printing it. I'm not sure what the hell you are on about. They don't want to make that one anymore and stopped including them in their catalogues. Are you saying you want them to keep printing and selling from it? Are you angry that you can't find a copy?

I had tintin in elementary school. I loved it. I noticed how minorities were portrayed and I was all "wtf that's not how real people look." I was too young to understand racism, but I could tell something about the portrayal was bad. I had read them all by the time the school library banned and got rid of them.

Pretty sure we had the Babar cartoon on a couple American stations. Never came across Tintin in any media before the internet.

The creator(Georges Remi) did get better over time, because he listened to reader criticism(Dude, that's really racist!) and eventually made a point of visiting places he planned to set a Tintin comic in beforehand and get to know the people and culture a bit. His racism seems to have been more rooted in ignorance than malice, at least.

Tintin is considerably more popular in Europe than in America, so pretty dumb topic even by CE standards.

I do remember Babar far more than Tintin, though.

Probably. I think this is true for a lot of things that would be considered racist in old children's cartoons and stuff by today's standards. Like the Indians/Native Americans in Peter Pan, for example.
