I'm doing some used car hunting, because I've ran my piece of shit Saturn Ion into the ground, and while I'm a cheap son of a bitch, it's time to move on.

So I've found a 2013 Subaru Outback that has a salvage title from being rear ended, the guy is an independent dealer who said all he's had to replace was the bumper and a tail light.

It has 80k miles on it, and he wants $10,000 for it. I took it to a mechanic and he loved it, said it seemed like a salvage title shouldn't have even been necessary. What do my car people of gamefaqs think? It could be a gamble, but if it runs good, 10k would be an absolute steal. I almost think it sounds too good to be true...

I would general avoid, but if you trust you mechanic and you plan on keeping it for a while then i may consider it.

If you trust the mechanic, go for it. Insurers write off lots of perfectly good vehicles as total losses (and lots of fucked up ones, so don't go thinking it's all fairies and rainbows lol)

Oh I just looked up the carfax, and it was in another accident he didn't tell me about that was to the front left. The serpentine belt was then replaced a couple of months later. This seems like a sign to me to fuck on off.
