Yeah, but not a double first date. Been on quite a few with a partner and either my best mate and his missus or my brother and sister-in-law. Been on a few where a friend and their partner has set me up with a friend of theirs.

I've only had it happen once where I was set up with a friend of the other couple. We were in high school and I wasn't even aware it was happening. My friend and I were going to meet two people and they surprised it on me that it was a double date thing when we got there.
It was one of the single most awkward moments of my life because I was not at all interested in the person I was suppose to be with and I'm sure everyone involved was mad at me afterwards because I was making clear that I didn't want to be there.

Yeah, been on the reverse end of that. My mate's missus made a new friend who was one of those people who didn't talk about anything but being single.

Me and my mate went for beers, with his gf and this other girl going for drinks nearby and we 'bumped' into them. The girl couldn't have been less interested in me. She basically pretended I wasn't there. Was less awkward and more just awful.

My friend's gf still apologises about it, the girl was that rude to me.

It depends tbh. It's best if everyone is already friends with at least one other person in the other couple

It can suck with people you know too. It starts out as something that can be potentially really fun but can easily dissolve to regret.
Most of the time it's not really even a double date. We're in the same area but off doing different things. When we are together, it's basically four people trying to compromise on everything and that can be a headache sometimes.

i don't think ive had any since then (having dinner with another couple isn't what I consider a double date).

Maybe I just select more like minded people to hang out with but this is rarely my experience

Yeah it was pretty weird. It was me, my best friend, his fiance, and his fiances cousin who he had been with before he met the fiance. It was pretty awkward.
